What makes desyncs so bad?

Post by gamer17 »

I know what they are, but they don't seem to affect me much.
I just keep playing.

Well first there is the chat problem: Chat messages of desync keep spaming and dont let anyone say anything. How about changing it for a big single message? :)

As far as I know the people who are affected are the ones who desync. They crash or start to see things after they happened, weird things like that.

Desync basically means your gamestate differs from the state of the others, e.g. units that are dead in everyone else's state are still alive in yours.

Well once a desycn occurs everyone beings playing a slightly different version of the game that then progresses to a completely different game as time progresses. Thus, as guessmyname said, "Everyone wins in a desync".

desyncs can be relatively minor or completely game ruining, but one thing they all have in common is that the longer the game is desynced the more altered everyone's game is.

for instance, if a desync occurs and a construction unit only exists on one person's game, and he builds a vulcan bertha with it, that vulcan will only exist in his game.

desync problem is lot of time due to only one player (even if all are desyncked) and its not sure it affect all the game.

I have seen desync due tu message or mark or drawing too ... so its sure sometimes desync fuck all the game but its not always the case.

If drawing sometimes causes dysinc, couldnt it be that the only "Diferent thing" in the game would be a few drawings? :)

Depends on how the drawings alter other functions. Could very well be that another function returns a different value depending on whether a drawing was made and how it looks (e.g. using that as a random seed like many NES and SNES era games did).
