Basically "Battal" is a Fantasy setting that can be concidered in the public domain... like an "Open Source Intellectual Property"
We don't have any fantasy mods in production, and the new lua features can theoretically allow for resource harvesting and spells and the other types of features we know from other fantasy RTSs...
So, I'm not offering to do ALL the work, but do people think this would be a good starting place for a fantasy mod... we have the added incentive of possibly roping in elothtes/penny-arcade community if we get something started.
Until we get Melee worked out I think the game would work fine with swordsman throwing swords... it's no crazier then the rest of the setting.
EDIT: I posted this at another forum
This is not me begzoring people to help me with my mod, nor is it me promising that I will do ANY WORK WHATSOEVER on it myself. I guess I'm gaugeing interest and looking for input.
I made one model so far... but I can't link to it because I hosted it on photobucket which is blocks from work... and I linked to it in the spring forums but that page is blocked from work too... so sorry... it was pretty awful anyways.
So background on the setting can be found at http://elothtes.pbwiki.com
Basically it's going to be a fantasy war game... similar to Age of Mythology or the Warcraft series to a certain extent.
I haven't decided on everything that going to be in the game... or even which era of the setting to use (It's actually almost MORE appropriate to mix us the various time periods so I might not have to choose) but I decided on a name Battal: Years of Battle (mostly because the acronym is BYOB... which is funny)
I was also thinking that at least for the good guy team ("Forces of Goodness" maybe?) you would have your commander replaced by a huge "The Cerulean Citadel" building unit similar to the commanders in NOTA, that does nothing but produce a resource called "Epic"... and spawn buildings (like forming a town around itself... similar to creep I guess... but not quite)... spaced out automatically with roads between. Town buildings would also produce a resource called "peasants" which would be spent to make other units
These unimproved town buildings produce Gold... but they can be morphed into specialty outbuildings... for example a "Library of the Hierarchs" which would allow you to train Elemenstors (Basically Mages)... and then you could build a "Furniture Factory" which would allow you to A: Upgrade the "Quality of Life" factor of your unimproved town buildings to produce more gold and peasants and B: allow your Elemenstors to Build (or Transchant) a Furniliar... which would be a love seat or dresser that would not be under manual control... it would just go between you and enemies and absorb large amounts of damage (as your Elementor has very low HP this will be neccessary for him to actually do anything useful)... there will be a limit to the number of elemenstors you can build which can be increased by harvesting Rubian (crystals which will be scattered across the field...) or by killing opponents elemenstors.
The "Hords of Chaosness and Darkness" will be the "Bad Guys", they will basically be really awsome... have a single resource that they gain by killing units (their own or other teams) and have buildings that produce useless creatures that they can produce expressly for the purpose of killing and gaining this resource.
