Zooming out on large maps causing lag

Is there any way to zoom out on large maps without lagging all the way to 1 FPS? I've already turned my settings to the lowest, yet zooming out on 32x32 maps causes lag. My PC is pretty respectable too - AMD64 3000+, 512mb DDR333mhz RAM, Geforce 6800GS 512mb. No idea why it can be so laggy

what are your level of detail settings? Unit LOD and Terrain LOD, should mean lower poly models when past that distance or whatever

i bet its the terrain texture that cause's all the lag :) and no setting can make that smaller in any way... so its time to get more ram to play on bigger maps :)

ddr1 333mhz is hardly respectable, its at least 5 year old technology maybe even older.

my motherboard supports upto ddr400, but my fastest stick of ram is pc2700, and my 2100 stick slows it back down to 2100. my brother plays spring with normal sdram lol
