Please people, don't piss eachother off... and for goodness sake, take anything Das Bruce sais with a grain of salt (I find it's easier if you think of him as an angry baby... like stewie from Family Guy)...

moth3r: Personally I don't particularly like the where you're at, but not specifically what you are aiming at... I think treating the community as a customer might be the way to go... come to us with examples of your work and a simple "what do you think would need to be included in a new site design"... you don't need to personally attack people who simply don't like your ideas.

You obviously think on your own page design. Your page kid, talks about your skills so much i can't take your comment serious. It is very sad.

I have an incredibly limited ammount of bandwidth, about 15kbps, hence the minimalist design.

And your design is still painfully like a commercial website.

moth3r:

This community does not go on "rank" or what you claim to be or whatever. Everyone thought AF was a joke until he finally put a decent AI together, and now he's got some respect. (one example)

If you say you are a professional artist, then act professional in your attitude, which, frankly, sucks right now.

If you are asking for community input and someone tells you their input, then there is no need to get ad hominem on them. It's poor etiquette in any plane. Don't show contempt towards respected members of this community and then expect the the community to embracec you. Noone here is obligated to like anything.

That being said, I do agree with mongus's and bruce's points.

Now lets play nicely! :D

Damn, this is decending into a flame war ALREADY...

I dont particularily like the logos. They are to complicated. I like the simplicity and ambiguity of the current logo. I think its here to stay. However, that second web site design you posted looks really good. Make the picture at the top a bit smaller, the menu bar a bit thinner, and I would be happy to use it. And as others have said, just go ahead and make it.

I have to agree here. Just make it, send it to the people in charge, and let them decide. It's not like Spring is a democracy.

OK, this is all rather exactly what I thought would happen. And I'm sure I did warn you it is hard to get into this comunity Moth3r...

However your atitude realy wont help. You came here, what... a few days ago. Some of us have been here since befor time began. And yet your already acting like your some sort of all knowing spring guru who knows what Spring is. Did you even read through any of the forums befor you posted!?!? If you did you realy can't have looked very hard!

**Hummm poders next sentance for 2 hours...**

What I think your overlooking is that Spring isn't JUST a war game engin. It's like... a comunity. That a lot of people put time and effort into. You can't just barge in and try and change things when most people like whats there. Also... Das Bruce point (while blunt, but if you'd been and read though some of the forum you would have knowen he's like that) is infact valid. That site does still look like some sort of commercial company site. I can envisage it selling chairs or somthing. Even with the screenshot it looks like its selling chairs.

Also, you said that...
I was reading all materials concerning Supreme Commander.. it is all about war and RTS.. i did not read much about plants and such. I did not see any humor too. They are serious game coders and dont kids how like playing with plants and cars etc.
Now personly I actully got quite indignet at that. For Two reasons.
1) this is not Supreme Commander, and we dont dam well want it to be.
2) Were not kids that like playing with cars and trees.

We are infact dead serios about our beloved project that the SY's kindly let us partake in. We want spring to be what its ment to be. The people that ahve been here longest KNOW what spring is, and hence what they say, even if they cant draw or webdesign, or like trees, is Totaly valid.

Whats worse about this whole thing is I'm not against you helping out, designin, ect... cause I think what I've seen of your profesional work is good. But the way you have come in just... gives people the wrong impression. Of what you wanna do.

Oh, and BTW, spring Does have a sense of humor, and Id be very disapointed if SupCom didn't have one to. Games shoudl not be dead serious, because its a game. As in fun. You can infact have a mix of both Fun and Serious in design, and that is whats needed here.

A very long post... and probablie full of spelling mistakes!

Also, on the whole TREE thing, like I said only oldies will get it, thats not me, or anyone else losing "our way".

What am i aiming at? ..too much sweet talk, not so many work. While you all talk i am working.. i am not going to discuss from now anything. And one propostion for all. Post just works not your opinions on behaviour issues. It is practical waste of time, and spamm over forum.

Another propostion too.. let's see who can make best ingame pics for header? I need them badly for a slideshow in header. Aerial or just 3rd person perspective! Panoramic or 4:3? Epic Battle's or spring mood :) Quality only concerns. So try to make them on higher resolutions with antialiasing too make them look better when we scale them down and cropp.

I would like to see some nice military parade or building compostions shoots. I would be nice to express Sprign engine in full potentional.

PS: pls. raw send raw materials for a moment so without any photoshop effects etc so we can all work on them.

The problem with Corbeau's design is, while it does look very nice, it's not flatshaded, and therefore it will be difficult to play with it and make it do all the different things that the current spring logo needs to do. Our spring icons are a red metal textured rising sun, the website banner has a white transparent, there are other suns elsewhere in mod title logos and other places. A great simplistic logo that looks good flatshaded (like moth3r's do) is much easier to work with and can have much more done to it in the end. That being said I still really like our rising sun.

Personally my biggest complaint with moth3r's site designs is that they look like dreamweaver template designs. Variations of those things get churned out at 300 miles a minute, the whole web is clogged with them, I'd really like to see something a little more creative. That being said if it can be made more functional then the current site is IMO it's still an improvement.

Moth3r, have you already looked through the screenshots in the screenshots section of this site? Some of the shots in there are absolutly gorgous.

?? OK now I'm miffed, who is this guy?

Also, Prob best if you start a new thred for your designs in the Art forum mate. Here, your just goona get to much spam.

And who are YOU to decide how we run our forum? And did you read past my first paragraph (IE the rant bit?)

And... Also, I'm wondering if somthings being lost in translation, are you typing your own english? Or justing a translation program (I dont realy know who good they are now adays...) Cause im sure English aint your main language. Just curios if maybe were not seeing quite eye to eye becuase of some daft translation issue.

Quick question, your template.. why does it say "Copyright http://www.joomlart.com/" at the bottom of it?

Was it just to show the header or (not trying to sound mean) were you planning on using that stock design?

I try to use some.. but too jaggy i think because of low res. And spring looks much better than it was when pics are taken. It would be great if soomeone can recreate better pic than example from last header.. "Big berthas are overlooking epic battle in the valley" or somethin similiar.. like opening battle of LOTR :)

These templates can be download free and they are copyright free too. But i don't use them in actual work. I just copy pasted content to make preview in photoshop and that's it.Content will be in near future replaced with the current and bottom of page is just little part of template not the actual template. Header, menu, borders, etc (practicaly all) they are not stock, i designed them so don't worry about it. Now i have to make my own joomla template based on my design from scratch because i m planning to use joomla.

I am working on it so for first days will be existing on my site and then proposed to communitiy.

I like the concept. I thought it spent too much screen real estate on pretty, but really it would just make you scroll down to read the latest developer news, which is not updated often enough to make that inconvenient.

Planning on doing PHPBB skins too?

Well, I really like the website design. Well done Moth3r.

As for logo, your designs are certainly nice, but I think they are a little too specific. I think Neuralize's flower spring was the best logo around, and I believe that his flower logo (the Spring, Epic engine one) mixed with your website design would be very impressive.

Don't let the naysayers get to you, some people have a hard time communicating their critiques.

ANY art for Spring is welcome, and I'd suggest contacting the SYs directly instead of going through the community. The quakenet #SY channel would be a great place to do that. Thank you for your effort thus far.

I like the web design, except that i think that sricter menus look nicer. Would mind that Layout thou...

The logos are pretty nice, but as everyone else said, i don't think it fits. And i can't say i could see your sun being our logo... it just reminds me of a coolar bone or something. Maybe if you closed the middle area under the sun... or something.

Heh, in my defense I'd like to say again that what I posted was not supposed to be a real logo. It was actually meant for something someone else could take up as a concept if liked (though I could easily make it flatshaded if needed). All I did was scribble it on a scrap of paper, scan it, then do some resizing and throw some textures on it.

And on the screenshots, I have a replay that might be able to provide a very cool shot. I'll have to check this afternoon.

[edit]Moth3r posted while I was writing. I really like those new logos, though I'd go with the wrench over the nuke for Spring itself.
