atm a big question mark hangs over the frontpage and tis content because everyone seems to be split between 2 camps
I really think we need a newbie frontpage with some small screenshots, nice logo and most of all not much text. Like http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
I think a frontpage that wasnt the news upfront wouldn't feel right

The mozilla page has the news up front. It's just the most recent item though, and only one news entry. I tend to agree with Jn, too much visual clutter detracts from the front page. That's one of the things I really don't like about Tim's frontpage. It has everything, the ------- sink, and the neighbors goat there, just scroll down.

I've been saying for quite a while that the image isnt a solid block, and will contain an intro and a large download button. To that end think of it more as an image or a background than a banner.
And I quite like that image, so what if the grass is there I think it looks nice, and the grass does not detract imo.
@Clericvash/etc:
I'm showing a website, tims showing a single html page. Right now the primary method of judging between the two is aesthetics, not usability, functionality, flexibility, etc. I have a feeling that after a few months we'll all be sick of tims design and want to put up a 3rd site. You're dissing an entire website despite never visiting it based on WIP screenshots.

I am not dissing an entire site, if you give me a link to the website to test mabye i can give some true feedback from honestly from that latest screenshot it looks plain and booring.
I am in agreement with jc about being simple with a nice download button and such but i still prefer tims design to yours.

Why, are you colorblind?clericvash wrote:I am not dissing an entire site, if you give me a link to the website to test mabye i can give some true feedback from honestly from that latest screenshot it looks plain and booring.

Not intending any personal offense to Tim, but his design, ascetically, is really ugly.
AF's design is ascetically solid, although it is a bit generic I feel... If it functions better then the current spring site I could accept that design.

Sure there is a colour header, but the rest is really, really plain.
I'm not one to usually care about typos or spelling errors, but the difference between Aesthetics and Asceticism is profound (and funny) enough to point outSwiftSpear wrote:Why, are you colorblind?

Some people have issues with grammar and typing. There are numerous reasons and there isnt always a quick fix.
Swiftspear has said so in the past, as have I aGorm and smoth for example. I cant remember exactly what it was, but Smoth has a medical issue with his hands, aGorm has a midl form of dyslexia, and I have a problem with certain 2 letter key combinations being reversed e.g. me->em ly->yl etc.
Thus to point them out and make fun or complain is not a wise idea. More people have problems than youd think and they do indeed proof read where possible.

I want to make the top shorter too as soon as I figure out howto do it without making the logo squashed.
