The New GUI

The official response from Pius II when contacted by Noize was that he was dissatisfied, he said soemthing along the lines of
SJ said ti didnt look like OTA, and wasnt happy, and I wasnt happy with the way the SY's where continuing with supporting spring only for VS .Net, i wanted to go for cross platform independent code.
I have the exact quote somewhere in my msn logs I'll have to look for it. Suffice to say he did not simply dissapear taking a fully completed version of the GUI with him, he gave it to SJ. Pius also appears to have numerous other projects and work ongoing, and the contact details on the forum under hsi username are just as good as when he was actively posting here.
If onyl he could see it now though

I'm basically hacking at CEGUI until creating widgets work, since its undocumented. I have a busy schedule, so I have sundays and mondays scheduled for spring work. When I get this resource widget working, a screenie will go up, hopefully followed by a rough gui put up. Once i get a partial gui up, it should be easy to put the rest in and start linking everything up
BEHOLD teh HORROR!!one
Tinkering with CEGUI glued onto Spring:

*ahem* Posted to waste everyone's time.
And maybe to make jouninkomiko - or anyone - show something better.
Failing that...
It doesn't do anything; just shows the minimap (can't click on it), the selected unit, and the unit's buildpic.
I was extremely lazy when I wrote it; I chainsawed out blocks of code from all over, and there's sawdust and jagged splinters everywhere.
Displaying the minimap is the easy bit - now I've got to cobble together the command window or something.

Tragedy
I was looking at the linux port mailing list archives, and to my horror I found this:
on the other hand:jcnossen wrote:Another thing (and I'm just making this yet another update thread)
jouninkomiko PM'ed me today that he really doesn't have time to work on the
CEGUI based gui anymore, so that task is open again.

someone talking about it before.... (sorry, I don't remember who)
And since we're using SDL+OpenGL now, other alternatives include:
GiGi: http://gigi.sourceforge.net/
Guichan: http://guichan.sourceforge.net/
ParaGUI: http://www.paragui.org/

GiGi: http://gigi.sourceforge.net/ look very clean! I like :)xiphux wrote:I don't mind working on it if no one else is, but I seem to remember

But ihmo, the the more important is to choose a lib wich have a good documentation ...
I like how it is now too.Cyberwal wrote:Will the game-browser and such be integrated in that GUI? because I actually really like the IRC-feeling it has now
But anyway, the protocol is open, we can have both.
(Even if making an integrated ingame browser would be a wast of time at the moment in my opinion)

Client works really well for the pourpose it's serving, and it would be alot of work to integrate it for very little advantage. I think it's safe to assume that for the time being we won't see very much work getting done just for the hell of it and alot more stuff being done to get features into spring and stability into the lunix builds.
