I've took the liberty to take MR.D's latest solar model and make a working s3o model of it.

Noe that there still must be made a new wreckage for it.
It people like the old model (the one I and aGorm made) enough, I will port them as well.

I like it, the texture could use some tweaking but I love that model!

Since i have always wondered why they dont use the empty space for getting more energy from sun, here is my suggestion:

yaarr more apriciated :). I think MR.D will be gratefull.
I'm thinking for rebooting the arm tech1 kbot lab remake. Might take some time though.

Abou the improved solar space usage, err, well, the reason is becouse OTA didn't had it :) and nobody bother to make it.

looks OK! I've adjusted the 2nd texture to fit yours. It might be a little to reflecting though.
That looks good but you need a better reflect map. It would look positively awesome if you just had the darker areas less reflective.

I'd rather say non-distorted UV map.

Look at the shot Caydr quoted. The white zic-zac is reflection I assume and it wouldn't be a zic-zac if the UVs weren't distorted. Tell me if I'm wrong, it just looks like that.

Well, if sombody wants to script it, I'll model it.

I've no idea what coused thew zig-zag reflaction. I can, however assure you the UV map is good. Image

@MR.D: I ususaly remodel a unit on a way that the original script works on the remake. Much like the original script was used on your solar model :)

ah-ha, figured it was just blind luck that my solar worked with the old script.. :D

If only there was a keyframe translator, so that animations could be developed in realtime using other means.

Oh and btw, that goofy reflection map is because of the smooth groups in the model.

the zig-zac is caused by how the normals are generated, and because of the polygons being converted to triangles by opengl. You probably just have to accept it.

Well, when you make a new model. just open the old and see how it's put together. the solar is very simple. a base with dish1 to 4 :)

This would be a nice adv solar. Right now the triangular one used in most mods is obviously much smaller than a lvl 1 solar, and it doesn't make sense that they actually produce more energy.

uh-huh. it would.
well MR.D we call of your services. you make the model and texture it. I'll be more then happy to make it work in s3o. (I cold make it myself as well, but I've enough other things to do)

Good idea, i also wondered why adv solar was smaller o_O
That would make much more sense, but with core we cant make bigger solars :S maybe smaller solar for core, so we can make bigger for adv solar? :D

Or make some sort of solar furnace, those generally have higher efficiency than pv panels.
