Yes, but the problem is most people don't. If Spring ever wants to break loose from the limited TA community, or it's security by obscurity, we'll need our own textures and IP. That way Spring might be included in popular Linux distros, and become hugely popular.Azu wrote:But I bought game and all of the exspansion for it.. so don't I have a right to play with the textures in it?
This thread will need a second split soonZaphod wrote:Hey I didn't know I started this thread! :D
Ok I'll add it. I don't think the 3do util actually has that problem, and if it has it I'll fix that (though Im still not sure what groundplates actually are, there are no specific tags for them in the 3DO file format).OMG, I need that! (but if it is in UpSpring, you'll have to fix the bug with UpSpring turning half of the faces into groundplate first.)
upspring needs to match the texture names of polygons with texture file that can have "00" appended to their name, so that currently caused it to screw up the texture name when it saves again. I have a feeling that is the bug you describe.

I don't think it is relate to texture names, as on a piece with all faces bearing the same texture, only some gets replaced by groundplate.
What I mean by "replaced by groundplate", is that, when I reload the 3do in 3do builder, faces appear with a dotted line, instead of a continuous line.
Normally, there can be only once face with dotted line, the face defined as "groundplate" in 3do builder. In old TA, this face is the face that is used as the "green selection square". Well, TA will force it to be rectangular if it is not, but at least you can choose how long and large the "green selection square" will be by modifying the size of the groundplate face.
Traditionnaly this face is the one and only face in the first piece of the hierarchy, but I believe technically any face could be defined as the groundplate. I thought only once face could be the groundplate and am very confused to see UpSpring can set many faces as groundplate. Maybe I should try to see what TA does with multiple groundplate.
I'm sorry I don't know what flags a face as a "groundplate". Visual TA was of no help about it.
So far I work around the "multiple groundplate added by UpSpring" bug by exporting the base piece and all its child as a .3dt in 3dobuilder, then reimporting them.

Just to make clear what happens at a random Linux distribution when Spring is brought to there attention...
