Hate to point this out... But you do know that the engin of Doom is open source? And all the ID engins are basicly a progression of the last... So basicly when they made Doom run on the quake 3 engin it was basicly just editing it to run with teh new extensions etc... And it was still all part of ID's stuff.

Hardly the same as Making a brand new engin and nicking someones units...

What's the diference between making a new engine and "nicking" someone's units and between making new units and "nicking" someone's engine.

I say, as long as Spring is not comercial, it is an engine mod who is using a moded set of units.

i think a mod request the original game install
so spring is not really a mod
sure is free it s not really dangerous but if mr cavedog say your atempt to his intelectual propriety and discredit it ....what so ?

What I meant PauloMorfeo, was why would ID care if people were playingh there game on one of there other games engins... either way its still ID's so it would not matter to them. (They prob be quite chuffed someone wanted the original that bad)

I'm taking about the entirely 3rd part Doomsday Engine that playes orriginal Doom based wad files in an entirely redone 3D engine... not just playing doom in quake engine...

those are only legal if you bought doom/quake.
ID never released any artwork/levels, only the engine.

And there are uncountable numbers of mods and ports that were axed or foxed because they used copyrighted material, so saying "there can never anything happen" is no longterm solution.

i think the rts is notunder copiright but same names as totalA or commander or pewwee yes
alll here are player and i m sure all play to spring if the commandername is replace by master3g and peweename by zdkfz or and vadername by...sinclare (hehehe!)

how can something be an engine mod without being a modification of the original engine? spring was built from the ground up, unless the SYs managed to get the source to the original total annihilation, something i HIGHLY doubt
