IceUI in my eyes is not exactly that much more attractive then default GUI in BA. I like the CA menu borders, that would be really useful for Spring noobs, but I also dislike a large menu, and would prefer something like the double column concept proposed at first, or like in good ol' TA. Icons replacing all of the commands on top (Patrol, Attack, blablabla). I also prefer squares then the current chubby rectangles. Now if only it were as easy as writing a Lua file with replacement graphics and coordinates...

KaiserJ, those old wasteful uis did as much with 1/4 the resolution.

We have ridiculous amounts of space but the UIs are more cluttered. I also think those fat uis brought a lot of color and character to the game. It is all like, sup dawg, I heard you like dudes, fighting so I am going to put a screen in your screen so you can watch while you watch.

with zoom out we can see nX times what the base level zoom is set to meaning that screen area can cover more of the battle oh and people have >19 inch screens.

I don't think the supper clutter is needed Developers probably need to use the spring ui for testing if they need all of those crazy values and make their own ui more focused.

Whoever says IceUI doesn't look good never took a few minutes to adjust it to their liking.

Yeah, the borders are team colored, while the window background is a translucent black. The border color is white because I have Marmoth selected, but I'm looking at Uni's base.

It is pretty nice I was all for it replacing the default ui but mel says not yet.

I myself cannot use it, but it is pretty neat

I find the game unplayable without IceUI. Most notable reasons: the chat window, satirik's playerlist, and the ability to resize/move anything at my whim.

How about a customizable GUI window? That can be easily edit by video gamers without typing a single code! Also a unit manager that keeps track of units, groups and buildings would be nice.

IceUI is customizable. That is what is pictured in the post above you.
Notice how I said I can resize and move anything at my whim? Read more closely.

Ask in the lobby about how to use it.

You also forgot the unit manager bar part

Lets see,

Buildbar keeps track of factories,
Unit groups keeps track or groups of units,
Idle builders keeps track of idle constructors.

There's a widget for every feature you mentioned.

tbh sometimes I wodner fi I should build a lua library that acts as a basic UI kit to make things easier for people building custom GUIs, stuff like panels and buttons and frames etc that can be skinned and arranged etc..

But then I wodner fi ICE UI is exactly that, it seems heavyweight and complicated and most of all undocumented, the barrier for entry for widget development if your not already part of it seems very high because your looking at a great question mark and some pretty screen shots

IceUI is exactly that.

I don't know lua and IceUI enough to say if it's heavyweight. However it looked like well coded and smart to me, and easy to get in. Each widget replacing the original Spring interface is a whole code sample to know how to use it for your own.

Wow when I see stuff like this, I realize the beauty of customization, because some people's GUI tastes are so aweful :-)

Hehe just messing, but really its great that there are so many possible configs and ways to make people happy. Its just that no one messes with it...

Are you sure you have the latest version? It works fine for me with b5 and I never have any crashes with it. I don't use Linux, so I can't say anything about that. Do you have ground decals enabled by any chance?

Yeah, a lot of new people are completely unaware that IceUI even exists. Even fewer of those know you can customize it. Yet fewer still take the time to do it.

This means Car and I are pretty much the only people with custom GUI's, that I know of anyways. Other people with custom IceUI setups should show themselves!

Especially usefull with CA's oversized buildlist.
Some command buttons use the right mouse button to do alternate things. How about scroll wheel instead?
Well i meant that the right mouse button should scroll pages when it is in the buildpic area.

Don't like it. 2 clicks required for a basic selection. That works fine for a turn based game where time is not a factor, but it's an extra action necessary to commit every command in a game where time is the difference between loss and defeat.

Some commands in the buildpic area use right mouse button to do alternate things. For example in CA retreat, and scrap used to use right mouse button.

Scrollwheel would still be better.

oh cool

I wonder if I should just download CA just to look at the new features and luas.

I think that giving orders like wait stop etc can be done in a little pop-up window of sorts that appears when you select units. like when you hold down something like the spacebar.
