I think it's coincidence. It is determined by the behavior when aircraft try to search for a place to land.
I guess, when the designated landing spot is occupied, it will go forward a little and land. However, there is a limit of how far it would go. If within this limit, all the space have been occupied, it would turn to a random side, and land beside the foremost one. And the following ones would land beside it, and so on.
I was just guessing from the pattern and their heading on the ground.
I remember in OTA, they would turn to a completely random angle, travel for a random distance and land.
