What i'd like to see is the following:
Music support per map basis, so mappers can add music or background sound to their map like some music or ambient sounds.
It would be better if there could be multiple tracks per map, the only problem with this would be map filesizes so we would need to have a music folder somewhere and the map files would read from those, in example OTA style maps could have the original OTA tracks, a special space map could have something more fitting for example and a windy map would have some wind sound
I'd like that quite a bit, if I want to listen to MP3's I can use winamp...

You're right Ground Zero, that would be a good idea. (A very very good idea... as I think about it.) That would make the game seem proffesional, etc. However, mappers would need to seek out music w/ sound effects or music and sound effects on their own initiative.
As a side note, I'm going away on tour to Canada until next wednesday (this completes my world tour after going to Brazil and Japan earlier this summer
). So, don't think that I've dissapeared when I don't post here.

Uhm... as long as people release their music/soundloops with an unrestrictive licence (possibly creative commoms, possibly just free to distribute), we could have multiple tracks available to mappers who wanted to include background ambiance... but I think I like the way TA did it better still. as long as I get to choose the music to cycle between.
Re: In game music support
While you don't think the music is important, obviously others do, after all, it is in mtr while unit limit and cloaking isn't.j5mello wrote:IMO ingame music is trivial. There are far more important things to be patched. Unit limits, fixing cloaking code, figuring out why when something extracts it can't build, and many others which escape me at the moment. Honestly i rarely listen to music while playing and if i am it basically gets ignored by me since im focused on the game.hammydude wrote:... Right now this is the only feature I really want to be put into the game besides many minor/trival things...
Sure, fixing what a few people want is more important than fixing what many people want

Well, It depends. Am I part of the few people, or part of the many people? If I am part of the few, then yes, what you say is correct, but if I am part of the many, then no, how can you be so selfish and say things like that?Sure, fixing what a few people want is more important than fixing what many people want
Plus nobody else is offering a $7 reward, which, while not much, can be that extra incentive to make this feature.
In game music suppor is the mtr #1, while unit limit and cloaking are not even on there. I bet that music support is widely more requested than cloaking/unit limit, even though you say it is trivial.
C'mon guys, bringing up my post a week later is kinda pointless since the thread has moved on... however since my post is being analyzed to a minor degree again i will explain myself (that and bring up a few points).
First off lets look at an integral part of my post:
keyword in that sentence IMO. That blatantly labels all that follows as my own opinion which i am entitled to just like you are entitled to yours. And since this is a public forum i am free to post my opinion on any and all subjects.
Secondly just because something is MTR doesn't mean its extremely necessary. MTR is basically a place to put subjects that get brought up repeatedly which means they are popular. MTR is not however the list of important items that Spring needs immeadiatly. It isn't like the Spring devs cruise the MTR page and go, "hmm... this is on the top of MTR, we must implement it immeadiately!!!!" If they did then every MTR item everposted would have already been implemented by now.
Finally im not against music ingame, i just think there are higher priorities right now. I'm all for ingame music as long as its properly implemented and isn't overbearing or distracting. But, to be honest, i would rather play a stable dynamic game with no music than a not so stable game with music.

Hoom-hom, someone should link to that extremely long thread we had about in-game music, regarding styles and algorithms, etc, a long, long time ago.
In the meanwhile, I've been building up a collection of classical music from various famous composers and soundtracks so that if Spring ever supports active music (SupCom will, if Spring doesn't) then I'll have an extremely deep soundtrack to play too. And definitely not not distribute through nefarious means.

Hello to you too. No one denied you the right to say your opinion. Someone argued about it, that too, is their right.j5mello wrote:j5mello wrote:IMO ingame music is trivial...

If what the players want is important to the Spring developers, than yes, MTR means it should be prioritized.Secondly just because something is MTR doesn't mean its extremely necessary. And you know, how many people like a game is usually the way of determining the quality of the game regardless of opinion.
The issues you mentioned earlier had little to do with stability though. Finally im not against music ingame, i just think there are higher priorities right now. Honestly what this all comes down to is if anyone who can code i.e. the devs or a patcher feels that this is something they want to do they will do it. You can't sway them not matter your tactic. If they wanna do it they will and ull have ur music or if they don't then your not gonna get it.
Also ill retract my stability arguement and swtich it to this:
The items i suggested way back are items that would allow mod makers to really start to get away from the standard "TA with a facelift" setup we have now. No offense to modders but the way the engine is setup now, if you want truly unique gameplay it requires a lot of complex coding. With more patches that bring in new features or refine current ones, the number of different mods available will jump.
again ill say that im not against music i just think that there are higher priorities to allow Spring to become more than just TA in 3d (again no offense to the devs or modders)
