Apparently their lead is the guy who coded TotalA and SupCom engine, so I am not worried about their technical abilities.Johannes wrote:Of course it's nowhere guaranteed that they can do better on their own engine, it definitely can turn out shitty, but we will see.

im worried about the gameplay though.. if they shrink the asteroids and moons so they are not overpowered, its just a minor deviation from the usual nuke-end fest..
if they really do the fullscale planethopping, its unfair because it favours shizo aspies

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
I believe they are going to do that Supreme Commander style "the AI will manage the stuff you aren't looking at right now"... sure people with exceptional micro will have an advantage but I don't think that a game stops being fun just because SOME people play at a rediculously high level... I still have fun playing StarCraft... just not against my friend Dmitri because he can beat 3 of us at the same time.PicassoCT wrote:im worried about the gameplay though.. if they shrink the asteroids and moons so they are not overpowered, its just a minor deviation from the usual nuke-end fest..

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
which would lead to trouble then.. fastest spread to the asteroids wins.. the ai will take care for the rubble in the sky, if you drop down just a com with some nice buildque

Bullfrog used the same trick on Populous the beginning. They still have many people fooled to this day...

I don't really mind, chances are that plays much better than a true sphere anyway.Das Bruce wrote:Well that's fucking disappointing.PC Gamer wrote:The planets appear spherical, but Uber are playing a topological trick so their surfaces operate more like traditional, rectangular RTS maps.

...and its your job to unfool them, each and every one, in the feature request section,as comanded by the tradition. Fools, not knowing that bullfrog actually used a torusknot for there worlds

Don't underestimate the power of cute graphics: $247k in 2 days. (And/or massive internet coverage)Azhukar wrote:$900,000 for a niche RTS. Good luck.
Looks pretty awesome. The developers certainly have an impressive resume of work.
My only tiny disappointment is that for whatever reason, it doesn't have the the epic scale feel I would have expected. Watching it makes me feel a little claustrophobic still. Maybe something to do with the cartoony style.
Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
Yeah... those robots need to be the size of small cities, baseline, to make sense. Still... paraphrasing something they say in the trailer, "Why aim for realism when you can aim for awesome."luckywaldo7 wrote:My only tiny disappointment is that for whatever reason, it doesn't have the the epic scale feel I would have expected. Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
There are many other gimmicks i would prefer an rts be made around.

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
I don't think the graphics really help them, the most consistant complaint I've heard is that it's too cutesy and toy-like, from people who like TA too. It just happens to have a flashy gameplay concept, big armies and explosions, professional team, of course people are interested in that.luckywaldo7 wrote:Don't underestimate the power of cute graphics: $247k in 2 days. And mostly I'd prefer my RTS's without gimmicks, but this can possibly even work well if you tone down the amount of extraterrestial bodies.
Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
there i was, for a moment fallin, for a rts, not even existing. But then i though, what are you actually in luve with here.. and the answer is.. superweaons of mass destruction.. and no reason why a spring game shouldnt have those, after ridikolous amounts of money and time in the endgame.. build a high barrier, and then you can have them all, lasers which burn through the planets crust, till they hit lava..
Or a orbit change device, leading to heat the planet up and cool down..
spaceships which rip mountains out of the planetary crust...yes... yes thats the spirit, bigger and even bigger, and with more boom and bloom- all you got to do is

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
I know people are all up in arms about gimmicks but this from a community that came from a game with unitnames like "Big Bertha" "Fido" "Peewee" "The Can" or "Sumo"...

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
I think it could work. With sufficient interaction between bodies I think planets would be much more than a superweapon gimmick. Even wrap around TA would be interesting and it's something I really doubt Spring could do any time soon.
I think the art style looks perfect, I'm sure that is no surprise to anyone who has seen ZK. Anyway I'm prone to throw my money or time at any innovative RTS thing.

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
TBH i just don't like this one. How does it change strategy? I used to have some ideas but it took me 5 days to make a bad spring map and I kind of forgot them. Well how about a race who's constructors can't move but have long range EDIT:build radius? Or do the orderly think and make a mod with a race per gimmick and see which gimmicks people like.Das Bruce wrote:Such as.dimm wrote:There are many other gimmicks i would prefer an rts be made around.

Excellent taste. I can tell by your well informed and educated opinion.dimm wrote:TBH i just don't like this one.
Hint: you don't even know how it will play.
Does it have a stable playerbase with a developed meta?dimm wrote:How does it change strategy?

NOTA advertisment detected!Well how about a race who's constructors can't move but have long range spray?

Re: Planetory Annihilation (Incoming Moon Drops!)
No i mean you need to leapfrog constructors; nota has builders and defense can be transported. Nota's real 'gimmicks' are its air and unit formation battles.knorke wrote:NOTA advertisment detected!
To recreate all that Planet.A. seems to offer remove any seagoing units from ZK and play on a sea map with lots of islands. Call 'air' units 'space' and make it more expensive.
