This is why I removed it.

Edit: BTW, just because I'm logged into the lobby doesn't mean I'm there. If I don't answer there is probably a reason. First of all, springlobby on win7 fails to mark me as away. 2nd, even if I DO get a pm in SL on win7, there is no alert sound.

But as it happens I was at a passion party all night till about 4am (think tupperware, but with sex toys).
imbaczek wrote:i will reiterate what was said on #s44:
1) we cannot have a link to anything using OTA content on our download page.
2) adding pics/links to project sites is probably a good idea.
3) removing download links is a bad idea because it's a download page.
4) new players _should_not_ be pointed at the spring download page and should get a game/mod installer from the game/mod's site instead. that's hard to fix for all mods, i know.
5) do not be afraid of clutter when number of free content game installers increases; the page will need a makeover then, anyway.
If that is the opinion of all the devs or the comm opinion among them, then I most certainly did have the right to remove it.

Actually, what I did was pretty it up for you (gave it it's own related section), then I read this thread and said awwfuck and removed it. Then I added it again when I got home just now, once again had an awwfuck and removed it.

I commented the changes btw. So the prettied up dealie is there. I don't care if it's there or not, it doesn't matter to me one bit, but what the devs say goes, so you should take it up with them.

One DEV.one.
I spoke with several including those who are responsible for the server itself.
I talked to them before asking about who would host such a thing and than asked when the installer was done.
Got green lights on both occasions.

See, thing is, that isn't what I heard in #sy this morning either. It makes no difference to me. I probably should have just left it as it was, but you just put a link up with no real description in a section that made no sense at all (the section that is for game download pages).

SO now all this crap is flying around and I have no idea what is supposed to happen. SO far I have seen 3 devs discussing it iirc and the consensus was "foul ball". That's why I said you should take it up with them and just post the conversation somewhere, so that everyone can see. I'm not about to get in an edit war. I hate wikis, plus, I just don't care enough.

This is what happens when the kind of ideas I put across, and the detracting general TA Spring rubbish is muddled together to attempt a compromise.

You would have been far better off simply building a BA installer, and giving the source to the other *A mods so that they can tweak your installer and replace the mod file and names. In the process you would gain kudos from the BA developers, you would actually help spring as a whole, and you would make things much more orderly, pushing us out of the ideological mess that is content installers in the process.

I initially made it to be an advanced installer and it was not under the games section but than over 9000 people started editing it.
I don't know from who you heard what but his is like a citizens arrest...just let the police do its job if they think a crime was committed.

AF how is this installer any different?
The point is that soon mod devs will be able to update it with their new versions so the installer is always up to date both in the map selection and mod selection.
Its a perfect newbie pack.

And forb don't say oh i heard something from someone name names so this can be resolved and some communication can be established...

I don't remember exactly, and I can't find the springlobby logs of #sy.

There was talk of you starting an edit war though. Speaking of, this is what I did to make an acceptable section for your installer. Why don't you jsut add it back? If it gets removed it won't be by me.

Did I mention that I really don't care?
'''Community "TA" Mods + Maps package'''

'''[http://springplayers.com/springinstall.msi TA mods and maps installer ]''' Spring version 0.80.2 ~500MB, added 2009-08-29 - includes the most played mods and maps.

Because yoru isntaller does not install a game, nor is it a generic spring installer.

As a result it occupies a murky compilation limbo which serves to further muddle the playing field. As a result it does not correct the problems we face, while at the same time causing controversy.

You would have been better off putting up a BA installer, and giving instructions on how to change it into an AA installer or a CA installer or a DA/EA/FA/GA/HA/etc etc

Even if you address the player who wants TA, they download an installer, and all of a sudden which do they play? There's more than one mod?!?! wtf which one is TA?!?! Why is there no TA option!?!?!

Your installer also demeans the *A mods by reducing their significance. Its like calling the USA a state of the americas rather than a sovereign nation in its own right.

There is more than one mod, so why not make that clear from the start. If theres just seperete installers for every TA mod, most people will start with getting only BA when they read that its the most popular. When they have other mods installed too its easy to try them out as well.

And just call it a TA mods installer, or something similar, how is that such a big deal...

The devs have said that they do not want that ta file in the main downloads page yan.

There is a games page linked to on the downloads page. Please put your packaged installer there under BA.

I am the closest thing right now yes. I don't think they CBA to make an official anouncement that yan should stop posting ta stuff on the engine download page.
Gota wrote:It's not BA and it cant be under the BA name.
I thought it was the most popular mod and maps?
that would be BA and a few maps..

or was it mod(s)?

if it was mods, sounds like it should get it's own special page under games detailing the mods included and all the wonderful maps so the players know what a great package they are getting.

Well,This has been a very discouraging experience.
I don't know who to blame since there is some sort of broken phone going on here but The behavior exhibited is very irresponsible.

just to be clear: IMHO such installer is a good thing and should exist.

but to be clearer: the spring project cannot support such an installer.

Than TA mods should not be allowed to be played on the spring server as of right now.
You allow ta mods to be played on the server but do not allow a link to their installer?
Of course I'm not gonna get a response from you cause there is nothing you can answer to this and of course you cannot stop ta games form being played on the server can you Imbaczek.

Of the people who apparently have a say on what will be displayed on the spring website.

I asked a month ago,i posted on the forums than asked again a few days ago and was told to go on with it.
This installer was meant to make life easy for newbies but with all the talk about making spring more noob friendly nobody wants to back this up.

If you don't want to do or allow others to do anything to make a more newbie friendly experience than don whine about how unfriendly spring is to new comers.

This package includes all the most played mods and any others that wish to be included along side the most played and coolest maps.
Many newbies have trouble of starting a game cause they install spring and have no maps or any of the most played mods.
