oh my god, sc2 is one of my favourite games ever... before i really read any PC mags or information on games, it was so rewarding to stumble across and discover amazing things. i remember feeling really sad for that last surviving rodent creature orbiting proudly in his little ship... freaking out when the ur-quan chased me as i sped through their territory... and laying a brick when i first discovered that green hyperspace where the dudes with the frictionless ships live.

"you smell like funny colors!"

i can't believe how fail sc3 was, even to this day... one of the most disappointing games i've ever played, and to make matters worse, it was a christmas present so i had to pretend i really liked it

orz

I hated what happened with the chmmr, the Chenjesu had a bomb assed ship.

loved the supox ship and the korah ship the most among the sc2 ships.

also ffs sc3 had some good moments, the drood and ktang(ULTERIOR PRIORITIES LOL) but the bullshit with the spacecows, I mean precursors.. .BAW!
also ffs sc3 had some good moments, the drood and ktang(ULTERIOR PRIORITIES LOL) but the bullshit with the spacecows, I mean precursors.. .BAW!
that was awful. i think i had read ringworld for the first time recently before playing, and was expecting a really grand and cool scheme of something or other, but it was just so disappointing.

spathi FTW as far as im concerned... win through cowardice every time, and they always reminded me of the puppeteers from ringworld ... as well as the ship that could change form, the robot race that wasn't the chenjesu.

yeah... there were some good moments, that's true, thanks for reminding me of those  ... i just really missed the whole feeling of discovery that came from piloting and customizing your mothership... IIRC sc3 had a starmap similar to sc1, and that whole element of uncovering new areas and such was lost, which young kaiser really just wasn't able to get over... it became too master-of-oriony for my taste, although i actually LIKED master of orion games...

i didn't know much about the game, had heard there were all sorts of amazing planets and new races, and was expecting something like sc2 but with a bigger starmap, something more complicated when you dropped to the planets to collect resources etc... i nominate it as the "zelda 2" of computer games ;) (taking something that worked really well and borking it for unexpected results)

(sorry i will stop hijacking this thread now)

well there still were new races but starcontrol 3 was not about the same kind of exploration as sc2. it had a lot of good elements but people wanted it to be the same. I loved it except that units like the supox, thradash etc were gone and they were gone to some bullshit plot device. that was what pissed all my friends off. if the story had not done that the game would have been the ultimate starcon.

however, we did get the viro-ingo ship which was cool as crap and the harika yorn ship. To those of you who never got to the end the precursors did not create man or any other race. They just cya-ed. It does at least end with a fuck ton of creatures dying :P

SC3 was written by *silly cows* and *quick babies* cutting corners. The music was not *smooth* and *bright*, there was too much *hurt* and *squishy* *spitting*. Playing it was not a *smiley time* for *campers*. The game was a *sad town* without *special sauce* and lacked *juice* for real *dancing*. It made *lonely bubbles* *frumple*.

okay, back onto topic. If you want to discuss star control more, then I'd suggest using CA's story page for that purpose (lol jk :-) ) .

BTW: the second reference was from the disney children's movie, Finding Nemo. Nobody gets a cookie, though smoth gets a quarter-cookie for the cool ur-quan kohl-ra GIF and kaiser gets a copy of Zelda 2
