I think its about telling the units to move on slopes even if its not the fastest way to go.
TBH I tihnk such a default behaviour would be much better.
Units should move like you tell them not try and drive around hills cause its a bit faster but climb on them if they are in between their destination and their current position.
Would give much more intuitive control during combat microing than how it all works now.
And if someone wants to make units move faster to a location he should make a better route manually.
This would be much more intuitive.

heh... just a comment about the realism of this map

about 30 minutes from my house, there's a section of the niagara escarpment (of niagara falls fame) which is essentially two very flat fields split by intertwined vertical limestone cliffs... and i've been there in the winter, this map looks almost exactly like it; even down to the spruce trees.

*edit fixed pic*

not the best pic of what i'm thinking of, because the flats are covered with trees... but most of the area is devoted to farms and wineries, so you can be sure that for the most part the fields are a fair bit clearer... but it DOES show that my part of canada suffers topographically from C&C syndrome

anyways nice map! looks tasty.

I live near the escarpment too, and even still it's not totally like that - the ground slopes up to the base of the escarpment, and slopes further at the top. I mean, it is a big wall, but the top and bottom of the wall both have slopes.

LOL!

What comes to C&C syndrome. I really dont see as a syndrome for this case but rather as a blessing because it kinda reminds me of that wonderful game and makes the map feel cool...

My problem with the C&C maps was that sometimes you couldn't even tell which was the highground and which was the lowground and the ramps were just freakishly little breaks in the escarpment.

I mean, southern ontario geography does have a big freaking escarpment in it, yeah... but it's just one huge thing, and it doesn't have any little natural breaks in it. The only breaks are man-made ramps along it (think CenterRock) that highways run up.
