Does Supreme Commander resync? Anyway, that's not really a "needed" feature but rather a workaround for other bugs, which imo isn't even necessary as Spring just doesn't desync that often.

I can recall desyncing once or twice this Spring version, not counting all the new BA com end conditions and autohosts problems...

That 'advertising' did nothing more than tarnish our reputation in the online community. Gota is possibly the worst representative Spring could ever have. Not only did he neglect then to actually tell them that Spring is a game engine, but he also brought along his trademark poor spelling and grammar.
Mind you, it's kind of inevitable if you go and advertise a rival engine/game on a 'competitors' site that you are going to fail pretty badly.

Nice job there Gota, you've done the community proud. :x

Less emo,more attention.
The first line of my first post "Any of you guys play on the Spring engine?".
Second line of first post "For those of you that are not familiar with it,spring is an open source rts engine."
Some of the poeple there were impressed actually.
Some stated they tried spring and didnt liek it cause of x and y and I corrected some of their misconceptions.

Haha.

Yan, the best way to advertise is not telling people what to do, or that they are wrong about something. Undermining their beloved SupCom (talking about the "there's actual micro in spring" -part) is the worst approach I could think of.

Maybe just point out that Spring has come a long way from what it was 1-2 years ago. Try have them cast aside their prejudices and try again. With the recent lobby and installer advancements, as well as the upcoming multithread support (it's done, right?), Spring might stand a chance of winning back some players who didn't like it 2 years ago.

A well made video of an actual game might help too. A staged eyecandy show-off isn't really as inspiring as a realistic idea of what you can do in the game, imo.

Also, some dude on the gpg forum wrote "It's a pain to move units in this game(spring)...really" I lold. Honestly, that's exactly what I thought when I played supcom - the formations were just awkward. If I could bring a single feature from Spring to supcom it would be custom formations. Or maybe area commands. ~~

If any of you bother to read the entire thread you will see i have mentioned all of this and posted the most impressive video,IMO,that the spring community has to offer and it is also the most viewed video of all other spring showcases.
I mentioned almost anything i could, like the upcoming mutli thread patch that will bring spring closer to multi thread suppsort and I mentioned the most impressive,IMO,games that are not ota based.
I also mentioned all the new stuff that were fixed about which the supcom players complained, like dsyncs and someone mentioned you can revert the zoom scrolling cause many people do not like the default zoom scrolling in spring.
I slipped a bit about the micro(even though it is so)but IMO the thread if you read it till the end is very positive.
I did not insult them and I did "play fair" as you call it.
I was only inviting them to try something new or retry something that has improved greatly.

Yes, you mentioned many very good reasons to try out spring, but you also said stuff that the supcomers view negative. All in all it was confusing. You were instantly forced to be on the defensive, with only your word (which was true and all) against plenty who spoke against Spring (with very outdated information), but guess who they're going to listen to?

Don't barrage them with a gazillion reasons why Spring > SupCom, just say Spring has improved alot and is worth checking out. No commitment, just check out if they like it (works for advertising free software imo). Be neutral - people object if something is forced down their throats.

Some resemblance to an advertisement campaign inside this community? :P

I think that with each structure of advertisments you will get different types of people.

Just stop advertising for spring, there is a huge topic about that and if you want spring to be advertised go post there, you gave people a bad impresion of spring and that's not good.

My post was a rush act to control the situation, as I explained to BasiC in lobby. I did not wish for anybody to run off to the GPG forums and exacerbate the situation by trolling any involved parties, so I issued an unsupportable warning. My apologies, but I was strapped for time, and now I can address it correctly.

Please, act with the utmost diplomacy when entering commercial gaming forums on Spring's behalf. You are in a hostile environment per default, and your words whether or not you claim to represent the community will allow them to pass judgment upon the project as a whole. Advocacy in any small manner is to be encouraged, I simply ask that we speak with caution and keep Spring conflicts or biases inside the Spring forums.
