That's all in the X series and its successors. X was only OP after you get a lot of upgrades, without those he was the worst character in X8 IMO.
Well the Zero games are pretty good if you don't keep blaming the visual style of it all the time. The difficulty is about between the X series and the classic one and has some nice concepts too...
Huh? Zero is the hardest series. Megaman 2 (though not 1) and Megaman X are total pushovers in comparison.
I bought the first ZX game and was pretty curious how it would be but imo it turned out as total crap and I quit playing it very fast. It has an "open world" and with that a lot of boring and pointless exploration and searching for the goddamn right entrance to the region you want to go to. I just want being beamed into the level I want to go to and that's it and not running back and forth for hours...
That's a very minor element. Sure, it's annoying (ZX Advent made it better by having most areas be reached via teleport or integrate into the world map, it also got rid of the stupid "take the mission or you can't beat the boss, beat the mission or you can't keep your progress" rules) but most of the time you won't remember it's there because you're busy getting through the levels. The Metroidvania approach just can't be combined with levels like that... Either go completely "nonlinear" or completely linear.

MM1 would've been easy, except for that goddamned clay monster at the end of the first Wily world. Seriously, was there any game after that point? That thing was just unbeatable.

And yes, 2 was the easiest... but also the best. Each level was exciting and different, and the weapons were actually useful. Later games lost both those attributes - no developer was brave enough to do anything like QuickMan's hyper-lethal laser maze again.

Quickman's laser maze happens in other games too I think. MM7 Turboman or something? Maybe X5? Dunno, I do know I've seen it elsewhere.

In Megaman 2, you had a fallback weapon and then could pick up 8 interesting weapons. In every MM after 3, you had the buster, and a bunch of gimmicks you could use in a weird situation. In MM8, the introduced the Soccer Ball as a clever approach - a weapon that takes energy, but megaman gets it in the opening scene, so you always have one real weapon in addition to the buster.
Well they didnt had to make new weapons suck because of the upgraded buster :) And if I remember well weapons dont suck that much on megaman 7, but thats the only game of the original series I have played.

And true in X8 megaman sucks at beggining, but if you get all of his armor, specially the Icarus armor (half damage + mega blast) he becomes ubber.

I always used a combination armor, though that left me without the uber attacks of course. Quickcharge + power level up for the buster = PWN.

Charge weapons are always kinda problematic, they are often ammo-free and as powerful or even more than the ammo-using weapons. Hey, free, super-powerful shots, why use anything that you could run out of, especially when its almost useless outside of the boss refights?

I'd say only the first and maybe 2nd title are that hard. After that they get more easy with each title...

I used all the blue parts except for the buster because that blue part with its "you beam over the entire screen for 2 seconds but can't move" was worthless as it wasn't a big advantage in the levels but a huge disadvantage vs. the bosses...

But I think X was really OP just because of those blue thrusters on the feet which made you invincible when dashing. Especially when fighting Sigma and Lumine this is such an essential advantage...

That beam part made the regular big shot the first charge level though, cutting the charge time for it in half (and it made the level1 charge the default shot). Add the fast charger and you can shoot big charge shots pretty damn fast.

It still was worthless vs. bosses imo. You not only drop straight down to the floor when being in mid-air, it also takes way too much time until he stops firing. The bosses recover quickly and only are damaged from first contact and so they often can damage you while you're still kinda fucked from that loss of control...

Also the faster charge rate wasn't really important as afaik the blue helmet cut the charge time in half...

With the red upgrade which also fires up and down diagonally you're way more flexible with hitting the enemie(s) while staying agile...

Oh - I just looked things up and I mistook the blue for the red buster part. So I took everything in blue except for the armor where the red one is better because of decreased damage and the recovering ability when switching characters...

Charge time halved + only one step needed (halved again) = near rapid-fire big shots, man. I don't think I've used the triple thing, was too unwieldy IIRC.

What's the use of an even shorter reload time for the stronger shots when the boss stays invincible for so long after a shot? You also can't just charge your buster and keep the button pressed because you're immediately in that beam mode you don't really want in a boss fight which is way less comfortable...

That triple shot makes you hit the bosses even without horizontal line of fire, charges up fast enough vs. bosses and also is very handy like for example in that final moon part after beating Vile - you can hit those Sigma clones easily and totally safe there with that triple shot...

I used Axl's railgun for the sigma clones, just shoot them through the wall...

I preferred that grenade launcher vs. them with Axl. They don't have a chance to fire then because they are dead after like three hits (and you can pump out your shots fast)...

I find the Ubber beam very usefull against standart enemies, and against bossess the special weapons + megablast works better :)

KDR the reason to use secondary weapons is because diferently from other games of the series the buster is always equiped so you can shot then between charged shots :) And they are not all worthless, the thunderbolt is quite usefull with its homing ability.
