Bandwidth limit of 12 gigs a month??!? Australia sounds worse than the lowest circle of hell. If I were in that situation, I'd jump off the roof of the Sydney Opera House and slit my wrists on the way down.
How many megs per hour does spring use?

That's what I go through on a light month.
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
For hosting a 10 player game, spring uses on average 14kbytes upstream per second for me. That would put the per player bandwidth at 1.5kbytes per person, which is quite small :)
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
I don't have any idea how much bw I use, but it probably is quite a bit, given that I use remote desktop and vnc heavily.

This topic makes me hate people who say spectators lag even more.

Hey if your up-pipe is 20 KB/s then more people can be a problem.ZellSF wrote:This topic makes me hate people who say spectators lag even more.

How come my internet company keeps cutting my connection and giving me a load of grief when all i play is spring?Foxomaniac wrote: But I tell you this : spring needs veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery little bandwidth.
I run most online games smoothly but when i play spring it is usually laggy as fuck.

Start talking about changing company and you might see a miracle happening :)MightySheep wrote:How come my internet company keeps cutting my connection and giving me a load of grief when all i play is spring?Foxomaniac wrote: But I tell you this : spring needs veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery little bandwidth.

Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
they'd probably want me to change since i've already paid for it, it'd save them having to give us internet for the rest of the year and i doubt they would give us our money back.
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
charge then :)
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
2 KB per player, or less if some of the people in this topic are believed. A few specs can hardly hurt, and if they do, your game probably would've lagged to death later in the game when more orders were being thrown around anyway.BaNa wrote:Hey if your up-pipe is 20 KB/s then more people can be a problem.ZellSF wrote:This topic makes me hate people who say spectators lag even more.
If you can't handle a few specs, you really should be hosting a smaller game in the first place.
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
I dunno, im on crappy wireless anyway, but i cant really have more than 10 ppl in my games. with specs and all. So that means i either host 3v3 and then specs are allowed, or 5v5 and no specs. And I dont think command numbers go up in late-game, i micro single units a lot in early game, that is clicking intensive.ZellSF wrote:2 KB per player, or less if some of the people in this topic are believed. Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
Sure, because microing a few units equals just as much orders as ordering massive armies of tanks and builders aroundBaNa wrote: I dunno, im on crappy wireless anyway, but i cant really have more than 10 ppl in my games. with specs and all. Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
im not sure how spring processes commands, i was assuming that if i send 50 units somewhere with 1 click, spring only sends that 1 command (and maybe the selected units or something).ZellSF wrote:Sure, because microing a few units equals just as much orders as ordering massive armies of tanks and builders aroundBaNa wrote: I dunno, im on crappy wireless anyway, but i cant really have more than 10 ppl in my games. with specs and all. Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
Thats the thing that gets larger later in game.BaNa wrote:(and maybe the selected units or something).
It's approx 2 byte per command per unit in selection (if selection changed compared to previous command)
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
I'm never moving to a country with nutty bandwidth throttling.

Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
Nah, Specs still contribute virtually nothing to the taxing of the up pipe.BaNa wrote:Hey if your up-pipe is 20 KB/s then more people can be a problem.ZellSF wrote:This topic makes me hate people who say spectators lag even more.
However, if you're torrenting, uploading tonnes, and trying to host with lots of specs, your upload can be so bad that you'll lag.
Re: How many megs per hour does spring use?
Spectators CAN however slow down the sim if they have terrible CPUs, just as a player can.
edit: silly me, that is false.
