Heres my .002
I think I have a winning solution
possibly a solution to the question of rank as well
Upon further thought, it seemed better that some sort of participation system be put in place to not only establish a players reputation, but their rank among other players.
After all, in the military, rank is bestowed upon soldiers by other soldiers of higher rank. A Colonel is able to promote a private to corporal, but not to General.
I propose the system be started by a system of points. Any one player can issue a positive or negative point to another player. However levels of rank should be hard coded in such a way that say when one player gets 5 good marks from various players, they receive the first level of rank. After another 5 marks, they are awarded a second level.
This player is then able to bestow onto another player a first level rank.
It's even possible that a second rank player could move to remove the rank if they wanted to, but what would show up is something like this
'Suchandsuch player has recommending removing this players rank'
to see why, click HERE.
To combat exploiters, it might be wise to make it so the only players able to add/remove their point from a player are players who have a certain amount of hours, which makes it impossible, (except from server hacking), for smurfs to jack up somebody or destroy them.

Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
It's just as exploitable as any other rank increment system. I don't want to have to waste time coding lobby methods of preventing players from abusing rank commands via smurf accounts.
Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
I came here to say pretty much the same thing.malric wrote:Even if I see the thread doesn't seem to be much on topic, I would like to say that I fully agree with the topic.
The thing that I would do different than proposed would be that the reputation will not be central but based on your 'connections'. If I say X is a nice player, I value his opinions as well, so I can deduce that players X thinks are nice are nice for me also. The same for nasty players.
This way groups of players will be formed based on their desires - if they like to play with people that spam, it is fine.
The lobby could take this 'rating' into account and not allow people to join battles for example if the hosts (or hosts friends) thinks he is a nasty players.
I do not imply that this should be high priority etc, but still I think it would be a nice idea.
edit: I think it is important to seperate the concepts of "I (do or do not) value this person's opinion" and "This person (does or does not) demonstrate good sportsmanship".

I disagree. I think what malric described is very workable. That being said, I doubt it would ever be implemented.SwiftSpear wrote:Once again. Any reputation system is impossible to have run in a good way, so it won't happen.

Heres an idea, if the developers are able to create proper login accounts for each spring user, we can have a stats sheet which can include moderator's report on that user. A moderator can report whether he has witnessed or have a set number of complaints against the player. Reason being it should confined to the moderators due to people able to create duplicate accounts and input repeated reputation reports on the same person as if many people have put report onto this person.

Tired's smurfs are all silver star rank AFAIK.Scratch wrote:To combat exploiters, it might be wise to make it so the only players able to add/remove their point from a player are players who have a certain amount of hours, which makes it impossible, (except from server hacking), for smurfs to jack up somebody or destroy them.

Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
Rank is meaningless.
Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
seriously, spring gaming community isnt this bad that we need some reputation systems etc.
if you just tried RA2 when people still played it, it was much much much worser community... 90% games ended in ragequit, and in RA2 you could fuck up whole game even if you werent host. and there were real cheaters. spammers at main chat, spammers at private chat. etc.

Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
I agree with trademark here. I think that we only need to make it easier for people to reconize and remember people who, for example, ragequits, by preventing (or at least making possible to reconize easly) smurfing and add something allowing you to mark people you dont like so you dont need to remember all those complicated names...
Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
k so you all can make a better rep system than one of the several that has been dissected mathemtically and experimentally by some brilliant academics and engineers
you all must be geniuses; i am proud to be a part of the spring community

Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
well i think you need to be a special level dumb fuck to need a artificial reputation system.
some people just use their brain and remember "that guy is nice, that guy is ok , and i hate that guy"
so what's stopping you from using your goddamn brain to do the same thing?

Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
This idea sucks someone lock this forum. its like a system that measures how much fun your having and if you having fun your reputation goes down. What a lame idea.
Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
No, more like rank measures what part of the game your best at.
Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
Little modder/mapper icons would be nice, other than that it doesn't bother me.
Re: we need a new "reputation" measure besides "rank"
I would love those, and an AI developer icon as well!Das Bruce wrote:Little modder/mapper icons would be nice, other than that it doesn't bother me.

I think you are forgetting that there are names like 3485734857 or asdhauhdf, and I would like to not have to check a list ever time someone joins a game :)Sleksa wrote:well i think you need to be a special level dumb fuck to need a artificial reputation system.
