all you need is a regular community, even v small, not more than 8 people who play the game on a nightly basis. from there interested people join the game, and things grow.
the EE clan used to host regular games and 0.163 was pretty popular because it was easy to get a game and learn the mod. KAI also owned the mod which was v helpful.
there has to be a v easy entrance point into the mods community for stuff to jumpstart. hosting your mod every night for a month on the release and advertising regulary in #main would work; just look how fast trademark managed to spread speedball.

EE also suffers from twin playerbase syndrome, the uber players and the newer players, for example, lets give the following situation:
8 or 9 noobs have joined an EE game as a 'free for all lets try a new mod for a bit of fun'. Now lets say the unthinkable happens and a final player needed joins for a 5v5, and lets say its Decimator, one of the best EE players. Somehow I dont think that the EE playerbase has increased by 8 or 9 players when this battle ends do you?
Indeed this issue isnt an EE only phenomenon, it afflicts the XTA userbase too, but XTA is lucky enough to have a midplayerbase to branch the gap and keep things going.

Gundam RTS is not even known to the world and no do people care about it. However, Gundam Century(if you read the site for it you will see I am safe) and Gundam Universe have more interested then my project will EVER have and they are not complete/or working completely.
This is a really good suggestion, hell having the lobby store some favorite channels would do that for many of us :)Boirunner wrote:i'm all for a "free like beer" package. you'd also have to change tasclient to connect to #yourmod in addition to #main automatically, though.
One thing people do need to know is that I do not want to promote gundam. I just want to make it easier for people who are playing it. That is why I have the unit guide etc. I am sure I could go out and advertise the project, make lots of posts on the many image boards I frequent etc. If the project had a large fanbase I would need to devote more time into it but I like it being relatively unknown outside of the spring community. I'd rather be free to spend more time helping others with their projects.
If gundam has more popularity then I would have to start seriously working on completing it. although last night's test matches(played all night on a lan) went really well and I had a great time! So I consider the game a sucesss.

what the fuck are you talking about?Felix the Cat wrote:But is it an open source RTS? Or an open source RTS engine?
Are mods modifications or games?
Is the sky cerulean or azure?
We're right back... well, a bit past square one, not square two either... just a tiny bit past square three... ah, here we are. Square ├â┬Å├óÔÇÜ┬¼.
