Yes as a feature... i mean it will work this way - 1st layer metal map - 2nd layer features map

what about terrain deformation?

If the terrain is deformed you end up with nasty effects such as the feature dropping into the terrain or being half submersed or sticking out over the terrain...

problem with your idea is that the engine doesn't support non-reclaimable/indestructable features... even if you can't click on them the area reclaim will do so... otherwise I've been suggesting modelled metal patches forever... terrain deforemation will hurt the visual effect but you would still have the metal map to check where they should be... and when you built the mex it would flatten out the ground and bring them back to the surface anyways.

Did you know it actually costs to restore terrain?

I'll look into area reclaim commands not checking for nonreclaimable tags.

don't know why you are saying that in this context... but no I didn't realise it cost to restore terrain... why does it matter to the disscussion at hand or where you talking to someone else?

when you define

indestructible=1;

You can't destroy a feature and you can't reclaim a feature.

the reclaimable=1; or reclaimable=0; doesn't matter if you have set indestructible=1;
