Since in your eyes my work is such crap, I want you to download the test version of the mod. Look at the jetcorebooster, the gunperry and whitebase. I want you to then look online for the piles of inconsistent images to compaire the work to. Then give me an actual critique. If you actually critique it I will listen.

I also want you to not get pissy about lack of "REALISM" because the mod is based off of a cartoon. I also will not appreciate random jackasses inserting opinions about the models or how the rotorpads on the gunperry need to be higher.. they were like that in the art. I do not mind if argh, lathan or other equally talented individuals offer their opinions.

However, this is not open flame on smoth this is an honest request for critiques from people who have the knowledge and intelligence to make a constructive critique.

I do appreciate the compliments but no person is beyond improvement. I am sure there has to be some reason for rightfields opion. I want to hear what he believes I need to change.

To be honest Smoth I dont see how you could add much more to those models given springs limits and given the source work your going by. I mean aside from making ultra high resolution texture maps and adding thousands of little greebling polys, Im not really sure how they could be improved. Of course a high resolution texture and adding more polys is not really reasonable due to engine constraints so given the limits you have to work with Id say their spot on. Best looking stuff in any mod so far by a decent margin.

I think you're doing a good job.

I prefer the whitebase to the other aircraft you have up there but that's just my personal preference, it's nonetheless a good model, and I expect nothing but high standards from you.

well, i don't have the knowledge as such, but
perhaps it's the style itself he's objecting too...by that i mean the high contrast black-lines-on-white-that-sometimes-look-a-bit-funny due to an inadequate texture resolution. the tex would have to be super high to do a bad one justice - but here you've done them pretty much perfectly.
but those two there look super cool - almost no pixellation at all. the only thing i could say is the one in the foreground could do with some highlights on the panels in general to add depth & reduce the focus on the hard black lines. but it would only be a VERY subtle change.

do the wing edges look a little more 3D/deep due to the lighting on a curved edge?

Well the White Base always looked a littel silly, from a desine stand point (As in it looks like a lot of work to keep it up and flying. The same way the Enterprise is a really silly desine for a space ship) . But i still love the textureing work, and the air craft is (as always) friggen awsome!

I'd say the same. White Base looks silly as it is imo, but that's just the way it is. Smoth did a good rendition of it for Spring.

I have to agree - I think the models and textures look quite good. Nothing wrong in my eyes.

Good work :)

Why did you need to make a thread about this really? I was barely flaming you, just pointing out my opinion. If I think the texturing could have been done better on those models, then I should be allowed to say so without you going on and making such a big fuzz about it. Note that I said it's medicore, not crap. It's not shit, but it's not awesome either. You've yet to show me something that isn't cartoony to proove that you actually have to skills to make something not else. I admit I don't have them:

I've been through several modding communities and have seen what is good and what is REALLY good. Now this new guy, is the latter. Sorry if I might tend to be a bit harsh, but meh, that's just how I am really. Just don't be so emo about it. :P

i somehow get the feeling that you are the biggest complainer about your mod yourself, smoth. Anyhow, I really do like the artwork, I just wondered if the mechs shouldn't be a little harder to aquire? As in you get tanks and support stuff in level one and the big fat evil mechs as you go up the ladder, and even then in lower quantities (and with lower quantities you can ensure a higher poly count etc)

I want them to be better so I always work to improve.

as far as cartoony or realism, that is mearly stylistic. Right now I have no projects which require realistic texturing. Since it is only recently that I have started modeling I have not done any realistic work. Then again, realism is a constant fight over how anal one wants to get.

I do have the "skills" to make something else but I have neither the time nor the reason to do so. Every project that I have been on has been anime-ish stuff. So I have not had the opportunity to do any realism.

If I get the time I would do that sort of thing because I find realism stuff more enjoyable because I can get paint chipping etc but it also requires 2-3 times the texture size for that ammount of texture detail.

Anyway, yeah I have been around many modding communities, moddb is almost a daily visit for me. For example angels fall first... that work blows mine away. Then again, I have nowhere near the time or poly count to do that sort of work. In the end this is a hobby project with no compesation I am not going to kill myself over it. However, if there is something that you see that you can POINT OUT I will look into it.

The spammable tanks are in tier one and big fat evil mechs are in the top tier. read the wiki :P. reply in the gundam thread under mods.. this is about what needs improvement on my models.

Great textures, but if you want problems, then could you make the lines a bit less blurry? (They may be sharper in-game, but from the picture, the black lines on the upper unit seem to be a bit blurred.)

You should change your location to "Insane asylum" or something. Also those lines are not nearly as noticable in game cause the units are flying/fighting/exploding/ramming or being built to quickly for us to notice.
