Unit Request For Dev
OK, I'm meddling in the builder unit code, and I'm thinking about trying to get mobile factories working, but I don't think I can do it as I have no way of testing it in the way I intend.
So I'm asking for a mobile factory unit to be built. I realize that at the moment if you used it and tried to build stuff it'd ask you where to put it like the usual con bot thing.
It needs to be able to show the unit building so no internal building process I have to be able to see it like in the current factories so I know its working properly....
And have it build aircraft.
Also for the moment I'd rather it wasn't a ship but rather a kbot/vehicle, as I need to be able to make it amphibious later on to test building non amphibious units underwater

Sinclaire finished making a (3do) UEF mobile tank factory from supcom. I don't know if it's in the Supcom pack or not, or scripted or anything like that. Reverse engineering is when you put in values and derive the sytem's behaviour from its reactions. Looking at a screenshot and building something that looks the same is creating a derivative work and goes against copyright. Of course the idea of mobile factories isn't something anyone can claim a monopoly on, it's pretty obvious. And anyway, mother nature had the idea first when she invented mammals.

What does mobile factories have to do with Supreme commander.. seriously.. I dont remember hearing anything about mobile factories for that game specifically.. and zwszg was working on something like this via scripting a while back.. so jeeze.. thats like saying jee that game has a waypoint system we better not implement one of those..

I think the maps and TA units are kept in hopes that whoever has the rights to TA no longer cares. The Supreme Commander units are much more likely to have someone who cares attached to them. It won't doom the project but any mod using these units can get a C&D letter (or if GPG felt particularly hostile they'd sue right away, though I don't expect that to happen).
