Betalord's server has always been in java...
It is even run on a BSD system IIRC

( It's just that I'm a bit disapointed cause I thinked that I could see what you're lobby look like :))

Whats the complaining for ??

/me kicks everyone back on-topic

If AF, while coding Java lobby client made a GUI for lobby server to test it with.
All the better, makes it easier for end-users to run a lan server.
i.e some peep are scared of running things in console

Whats the big deal, we can choice to use either one.
Not exactly something to complain about ?? Find something better todo :)

I'm not complaining, I just say that it's not usefull :)

It is just that I would know if there is a reason to switch to this one?
The current server is as easy to use, take less ram, and is know to work.
But perhaps I'm forgetting someting ...

No reason to switch.
Its just a choice for end-users that setup lobby server for lan games etc.
To either use
GUI or Console version

Some peep are scared of console programs and love GUI instead..
Personally i would use Console version, but then again my windows decided to stop about 2 months ago & i havent been bothered to reinstall it, using gentoo / linux atm.

This version is useful for development and enw users.

I find a Java program ina single file with a GUI with a close button better than a folder of java sources with batch files that show no signs of running unless you try to connect to localhost or open taskmanager.

It also means you can look at the traffic going through in realtime and see any error messages as and when they happen which is very useful for coding.

It also doesnt require you to learn howto use the svn or where to find the lobby server code, just download open and run...

That's not really required for the current lobby server either. Download it and run LanServer.bat...
But a frontend is a nice idea indeed.

What betalord has made is basicly a spring tailored IRC style protocol. Anyone can run a server and any client that understands the protocol can connect.

Off Topic
@cleric he is working on java lobby. But either way atm, we need the sync errors sorted out for Linux to play online.
Although a more complex tool for linux to make script.txt for games would be most welcome.
