Why do we even have speed universally enabled?
I don't understand why gamespeed(+ and - buttons) is still a universally available command to all players in a game. The feature is not supported and it really makes spring annoying at times, the game is unplayable laggy at high speeds, and increasing the speed doesn't help when the game lags because it wants to send more data when the game is faster and it can't do that because of lag anyways. Decreasing the speed isn't really useful either except to players who want to cheat or be greifers to other springers. I propose we make speed changing a .cheat command, so it's still available for watching demos and stuff, but at the same time it isn't going to be abused by noobs in game. We can always move it back later when it's better supported and works properly without just changing the data transfer rate, but for the time being it's just a nusance that is better off left unavailable during standard play.

Problem is, it's off by default, when speed shouldn't even be accessable at all in game because it's buggy and non supported.DUMBHA wrote:I'm with you... Though there is a thing called lock game speed in the very right tab in the game lobby that you can use for now...Though you have to be the host to change it, So if your not the host and you want it turned on you have to ask the host.

I'm not suggesting removing it, I'm suggesting it not be accessable in normal play by default. I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure a replay host can issue the .cheat command mid replay, so they would still have access to speed changing for that purpous.Rayden wrote:But if you remove it, don't remove it for replays too

Yes, this is the technically correct thing to do, however, when the game slows down because it's getting lagged up most players, being players and not technically minded experts, try to speed the game up by increasing the gamespeed, which of course just increased instability. The VAST majority of uses for the speed commands I've seen have just been to abuse other players in the game and force hosts to lock it.AF wrote:switft, you're meant to lower the speed when you lag.
no...this entire thread is pointless
what about ppl who host then go afk (and spec) ?
why the fuck even bother. 90% of players will NOT abuse speed and the other 10% .cheat .setmaxspeed1 .setminspeed1 ... ffs do people just make up problems for spring now? are there not enough real problems for the devs?
