Proposal:A Day without Speedmetal.

Post by Dragon45 »

Idea:

The last day of every month, the server will kick you out if you try and start a speedmetal game (or SpeedMetalDuo SpeedMetalPentagon etc).

This will do two things

1) For that day, it will force the noobies to play real maps
2) I won't have to see five SpeedMetal games sucking players from real games that I want to play in.

Not sure about ho easily the server can be set etc to do this - but maybe it could be a client-side feature that is enabled on Moderators' clients that automatically boots people with the map? Might be easier to implement that way.

This idea can only help the Spring communit! :D

I agree with Forboding, it would be great, but will not happen.

I'm for it, becasue I hate and despise Speedmetal. I mean its one of those prophicy's fortelling argmeggedon "And thout shalt have a great game, where only the worst of maps shalt be played" or something like that.

But I'm against the idea, cause its just a nasty thing to do. I mean, its their choice to suck.

I dunno... Yes, we hate speedmetal, but restricting the content available in an opensource game? Does that go against the GPL license?

There's a problem with that idea. Once you have your sweet, sweet beautiful day without Speedmetal, then you will realize that the next day like that will be an entire month away.

I seriously think this would help the community advance strategically. If people play something other than SpeedMetal, real mappers will get their stuff more shown to the general public.

Again, if there was something client side in the moderators' clients, that booted people from server for hosting speedmetal, it would help stuff out.

no booting... basically all of us who don't likw speedmetal and occationally play it when there is nothing else to play have a day when we absolutely refuse to play it... also we have any certified host (known good hosts who are good hosts etc) plan to be online that day and host non-speedmetal maps... that would be less mean.

I think its a great idea. But to be fair and equitable we should also have a day when you are allowed only to play speed metal and no other maps. That way the speed metal snobs can find out that it is actually possible to have fun on that map (in small doses).

And maybe make it compulsory to play the action mod on speed metal - bwa ha ha ha.

I dont really play anyone who plays speedmetal anyways, they will either self d at the third minute when my AK kills his lab or comm bomb my team on a 2v3, so keep them in their little metal-intensive cages i say!

I've often wondered why I've never been made a mod while newcomers like Drex and such somehow manage it. I guess this topic sums it up though - I'd probably permaban anyone playing speedmetal. My reign of terror would be short, but very sweet.

If hypothetically one was to do this, how would one prevent the Speedmetalers from just circumventing the lobby by changing the name of their filthy maps, hm?

Do you perhaps propose deploying built-in Speedmetal Detection Systems(TM) from Cheesecan Corporation?

Speedmetal is very similiar to a drug. Probably the drug speed. Too much of it just ruins you, but in moderation, it's really MMmmm...
