SinbadEV, i love you.

Was about to write basically the same thread as this. :P

(needed a flat map for bugtesting kai attack groups on without implementing different movetypes)

could you also make a really huge one? 64x64 or up :D - for stress testing, see what happens when the ai peaks 1000 units or whatever. still single color and completely flat, with the same metal layout as now or less

so could someone please make another flat map, but harder and another color? (like the blue picture in a post on the first page)
maybe a bit higher also to make sure there wont be ponds all over the battlefield. my ai tests still have lots of artys dancing around making holes.

im using tehpink atm but the broken surface is bugging me

Uhm... don't count on me to do things... also, my computer can't handle anything bigger then 16x16 or so... also, I don't know much about smds so the whole "map hardness" thing... I'd have to look into this... also I'm at work. Honestly, these things take 20 minutes to do at the worst so you just kinda need to keep this topic near the top long enough for me to see it... currently I have GalCiv2 being interesting again (latest patch fixed a LOT of issues) and just got Crystal Chronicals back from my brother in law, so need to play that again...

would be great if you could just recompile-or-whatever the map with a really hard texture at its current size. if not ill have to learn how to make maps just to make a single flat one :P

You don't even need to recompile for that. Just open the map archive, open the file names Mapname.smd and change the map hardness variable to about 9999. That doesn't make it totally unmodifiable, but it does make it so hard that no weapon in any existing mod will make a dent.

Then you'll need to repack the maps folder back up, but that should be really easy to figure out.

The one thing to note is that you shouldn't try to take a "home-rolled" map modification online- it'll just drive you nuts with sync errors.

tried the hardness thing, winrar + notepad, and the archive scanner crashed tasclient. might be something else besides my mad mapmaking skills though. :P

okay, got it working now, hardness 3200 in .smf. notepad FTW.
