Well after gaming a bit with .72 I have really come to the conclusion that the shield system really doesn't work. I had 4 shield generators going and charged and I found myself still hit with all sorts of projectiles.
How is this feature supposed to work?
Also, is there _any way_ to assign shortcut keys to things so my mouse doesn't overheat from clicking the menu left and right as well as the tons of other thinks I have to do with my mouse?
I know this is more GUI related, but still... it would really improve game experience.

Shortcut keys for what? There are already keys for all unit commands, type selection, group selection...no, there's no button for "win with strategery," but what are you asking for?Buggi wrote:Also, is there _any way_ to assign shortcut keys to things so my mouse doesn't overheat from clicking the menu left and right as well as the tons of other thinks I have to do with my mouse?experience.

Ok buggi, i will give you my precious.
this is the best selection key i'v made to date.
C FromMouse_50++_ClearSelection_SelectNum_1+
Thats is generated by SelectionEditor.exe, but you can copy paste it in selectkeys.txt.
This custom selectionkey, will make you able to select one unit that is near the cursor, WITHOUT clicking it, just by pressing a key.
why is this so excellent?
Well, first you dont wear off the mousebutton1.
Seccond, you dont need to "exactly" click on top of the unit, this is specially true for moving units, which are harder to click on.
Just place the cursor "near", or hover close, to what you want selected, and press C. If you have 2 units nearby, and the wrong one gets selected, just press it again.
Third, its neat cool.
Fouth, its a feature that is present in Spring since the first beta.
Fifth, its perfectible.
Sixth, is customizable.
About the perfectible part.
If you use that key, in conjuction with:
Z Visible+_Not_Commander_InPrevSel+_ClearSelection_SelectAll+
you get a "double click like" action.
this does not wear the mouse either, nor requires enormous skill to click moving units.
And, its a great abstraction of the all-times usefull and yet many times so stupid, Control Z.
(note: remember to remap or comment out this keys default biddings in uikeys.txt)
About making this even more perfectible.
Well... why to have to press 2 keys, when you can only press 1.
what i mean, is a feature request for the selection editor system.
In the "what to do with selection part", a "select all the units of the same type" is needed.
Its something like concatenating a selection hotkey, after another.
Having that, we can, in only one key press, select one unit, AND, inmediatly after that, select all the units of the same type, effectively joining the 2 custom keys above into a sinlge one.
that is something similar to a doubleclick, but that works within the "from cursor" option.
I hope i made sense in that feature request.

Thanks for the key help! Any chance I could inquire how to map keys to a the menu left and menu right arrow keys?
About the shield, there's really NO indication on if it's even working. No "charge bar" or "am I working" light. Nothing.
Yes I play mostly with AA (2.1) and like the interesting shell it has, if only it worked. And as a shield, it should stop ALL incoming things. But that's just MHO.
