Spring Showcase II - Return of the Beefs!

Post by Cabbage »

lol anyway, i finally got up off my exquisitely formed arse and finished the video. Now i've got a series of interviews to do with all these journalists who want a piece of the action so i'll be brief.. :P

Atm i've only uploaded the low quality version (same format as the last video) as the high quality one is 190MB and FU has a 50MB upload limit.

Low quality (but only low quality compared to stuff thats..higher..quality... - it makes sense in my head!) version: http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=3545

Hope you enjoy it - any critiscism can be directed to my arse, who will be happy to ignore any and all complaints! :P

Edit: lol took over 3 hours to upload.. but here it is, high quality version.. (190MB)

Edit: Thanks to zorbawic for rencoding the high quality version and bring the file size down to 44mb

I liked the flashes you added on the section with the nuclear explosions. The trasitions are much better and the name part at the end was BOSS!

I will admit I am kinda sad that gundam didn't make it in the video but good job none the less.

I, frankly, did not really like it much. At all. There were a few semi-cool parts, but mostly those were overridden by the horrible scene transitions. The music was also grating and uncool, in my opinion. It was also not very...Springy, if that makes any sense what so ever. I mean the units and explosions were there, but were was the feeling of Spring and AA and EE and FF and Gundam. Wait...where was Gundam?

Nanoblobs was cool and out there, as usual.

Edit: Oh right and some tips to make it better!

New Music: That is...well...GOOD music. Not this...technocrapula your giving us. Put some thing explody there instead.

More stuff: Most of what happened was just the camera zooming around and some nukes. One of the few 'real' cinematic moments were the vulcans firing at the shields. Another would be the nukes. I like your sig at the end of the movie though.

I liked the scene with the commander and the shots coming in, the sheilds etc were also nice to look at... If you want I can grab the time stamps of the scenes I thought were particularly nice.

LESS TRANSITIONS!

Otherwise, quite okay. More crazy land/air/sea based battles thou, and not just one side of battle firing at some out of the screen enemys.

I like it :D
Definitely improvements over the last one. The transitions between battles are funky, keep them. Although it could maybe use some more epic battles (close and from afar) as kixxe said. Bring in some more super units too, you know we go all crazy for em! :D

Nice, but don't overdo the transitions.

looked at it. There is much work put into it, so for that I will say many thanks! I will post it on the forum of the mag I write in, it can appeals some new players.

Some transition are a bit psychedelic and lenghty though... Particularly the circle of robots in the desert.

Otherwise awesome job indeed. The music is ok for me, dynamic but not overly intrusive.

Congrats! :-)

As a spring player there are things I would criticize, but as a marketing spot I think this thing is dead on. Great cabbage, I'll link this around for sure.

I don't mind the music and most of the transitions (although I think the spiral wipes, that film-reel one, and all instances where you take the same scene and zoom out while zooming in on different layers just hurt it). But the thing that really makes it less appealing is just that the framerate is awful, and you've captured some scenes that really show off rough parts of the engine. My computer is far from top-notch but it runs everything smoother than that, and at considerably higher resolution than necessary for capturing. I think it'd be better if people with beefier computers captured the video and you just handled the editing. The scenes with the very polygonal-looking missle smoke trails just make me cringe, since from most angles those trails look a lot better in-game.

Also, "www.fraps.com" just lacks class.

But I do think a lot of the action scenes were pretty cool. Maybe you should have signed "Spring" instead of "Cabbage" for a promo video though. :)

I still prefer the first one you did, since the music was better (although I understand the desire to move away from TA--but hey, there are other fantastic orchestral pieces around!), and it was more humorous.

good points, but on the frame rate and the fraps disclaimer, this is because (I think) that Fraps on free version (what he have) is limited in FPS.

Why not using some classic music. Think the 1812 Overture of Tchaikosvy (the one used in V, the movie). Or the Charge of the Valkyries, classic but with punch :)

Anyway, criticism is easy, making is difficult, so congrats anyway.
