Now, I realize that this is not a high priority idea by any means, but I'm just interested in knowing how viable it is. Would it be possible for air transports to drop their cargo when they are destroyed? The carried unit would have to be pretty hardy to survie the fall and resulting tumble, but if it did, you would have just saved yourself from a comm-napping or whatever is going on in that case.
Also, is it possible to capture a unit while it's loaded on an air transport? If not, why not, and would it be possible to do without a lot of work?
Second, and this one's actually sort of important, it should not be possible to control (via orders or through first person) or even select a unit that is being carried. As it is now, a kidnapped commander or even just a regular unit can self-destruct and ruin the whole thing.

Re: Air transports
This is a feature of some mods, Gundam Annihilation for example, has small transports that can carry 1 unit and allow the unit to fire.Caydr wrote:Second, and this one's actually sort of important, it should not be possible to control (via orders or through first person) or even select a unit that is being carried. Re: Air transports
I agree, this feature is useful for some of us, Caydr, please bear in mind other mods than AA exist, your insistance on commander=1; for seemingly little purpose bizarrely caused a bug in AATAAun wrote:This is a feature of some mods, Gundam Annihilation for example, has small transports that can carry 1 unit and allow the unit to fire.Caydr wrote:Second, and this one's actually sort of important, it should not be possible to control (via orders or through first person) or even select a unit that is being carried. Agreed.Gnome wrote:Along the same lines as the drop-units-when-dying, I'd like to have a drop all operator for normal operation. Also, a way to make air transports stay parked while infantry come to them to be loaded would be dandy! Seeing LAATs dancing around loading and unloading is no fun
Also, having the ability to drop units in air i.e. paratroopers would be very sweet, but, rather a large demand I guess

Gundam's transports must have "isairbase=1;" in their tag, which makes the transport into an entirely different type of unit... the no orders thing wouldn't apply to them.
I'm aware that there are mods besides AA, but those mods (before being ported to spring) must've found ways to work around these rules. The commander=1; tag for instance, should have the same effects in Spring as it does in OTA, since you don't want a commander being reclaimed or captured. My suggestions are about restoring OTA functionality (which many mods besides AA rely on) with existing tags that do little or none of their old purpose.

Unis in OTA that could capture could not be captured themselves, iirc. I'm not sure on the reclaiming, but I'm not convinced commander=1; was responsible for that, either.Caydr wrote:Gundam's transports must have "isairbase=1;" in their tag, which makes the transport into an entirely different type of unit... the no orders thing wouldn't apply to them.
