Stupid question time.

For URC, what's the difference between Cannon and Plasma mechs? Which are better? And don't give me that crap about "depends on what you want to do with them", unless you're willing to explain their roles and what they do
i see alot of people perfere plasma over cannons, which is probably due to the good range, but i think it takes energy to fire, and cant fire over wreckage and stuff.

No, cannons do not fire over wreckages, but they do pack an amazing punch, per-shot. I wonder though, for URC how do the plasma and cannon weapons compare for damage over time?

actually it's all been rebalanced so I would wait till fang releases this latest version. Units costs etc actually make sense now.

Because some people do use them. They are good at protecting areas you do not want to guard with your combat units. Defenses are also exceptionally good at stoping early to midgame air rushes.

I am one of them, while I may not be the best EE player (Mainly because I don't play that often anymore) I am fairly good and can make good usage of defenses. I have found that defenses are great esp when used well. However, I also appreciate the point of a mobile unit over a static defense.

Or maybe replays would help all of us see your point and make it abundantly clear. There is no arrogance to that, the only way to get better balance is to find issues and crush them. However, certain sucess and failures happen depending on a huge number of variables. It is is easier to identify these issue when we can see what happened.

Damage over time does not rule all. Having two weapons that do the same or similiar dmg of time does not make their function the same.. and the example is included:

say I have a weapon that does 100 dmg with a reload time of 1 (so its dps is 100).. well say I have a weapon that does 500 dmg with a reload time of 5 (so its dps is also 100).. now heres where the difference shows up.. say they both fire at a target with 400 hp.. the 500 dmg weapon kills it instantly then has to reload, where as the 100 dmg weapon takes 4 seconds to kill it.. do you see what I mean.. this is how plasma relates to cannon mechs...


That said plasma is your bread and butter unit.. you should always have plasma mechs at each lvl.. the other units back up plasma and fufil roles the plasma cannot do so well on its own:

Rockets: arcing fire and wide aoe
Cannons: killing power for finishing something
Flame: short range High DPS for demolition
Aarty: long range bombardment

also can everyone and I mean everyone just take a much less hostile tone when replying for the good of all..

That being said about the mechs of URC i think, can you tell us what weapons fufill in GD that has not been mentioned.

GD follows a not to dissimiliar principle:

Cannon units are your bread and butter

Rocket: Arcing/AOE
Laser: Short range High dmg demolition
Arty: long range bombardment
Ion: EMP paralyzation (more useful when outnumbered by swarms)

It isn't, that's not why I said he was arrogant. Interpretation of voice.
Because some people do use them. They are good at protecting areas you do not want to guard with your combat units. Defenses are also exceptionally good at stoping early to midgame air rushes.

I tend to lose my civility when people start patronizing me, or misinterpreting me despite my explanations.

On the other hand, it's been like this since I started playing Spring, and I don't really expect it to change much... everybody I've asked to play the game has left because of the community - which explains most aptly why we remain so few in number.

There is a lot of truth in this. One thing you should realize that Myself smoth deci, fang, mello, drex,etc are really nice guys. But when someone flames generally the first instinct is to flame back.

Let me try this.

Te defences are less powerful because they are designed to be backup oh shit holders that you can fall back to and gain an extra firepower vs an offensive push.

IMO defenses are there to hold chokepoints and little else. They are only cost effective if you can place them on a near 1:1 ratio with the enemy attack and in the open they end up being too expensive to be useful.

After much deliberation I have decided to add in metal makers...

Yes the defences are supposed to be used to guard defensive positions not placed haphazardly..

I dunno to see if anyone actually reads the posts I make in this thread or just comes here to bitch at people flipping out at random issues that are of little concern to anyone...

I intend to rebalance lvl 2 combat units but mostly URC should this be done.. yes no? what are your thoughts enough bickering about the defences..

And lord I hope you're being sarcastic.

Fang I think that the way you have done it in 158c is really good.. NI being an exception.

Edit# 3 I just remembered, you said a long time ago that metal makers would NEVER be added. SO therefore you were being sarcastic, and in that light, it's quite funny :wink:

There is no reason to get billegerent with me I was trying to help the discussion not your personal defensive tirade.

I was not partronizing, I misinterpreted nothing. I can say that prior to you snaping at me you didn't even enter my mind.Does that make you feel less patronized? I was not patronizing you. I was trying to state a few points.

I am sorry you are massively on the defensive. Your explanation as I said earlier is not enough, seeing the demo would help us find bugs and suggest ways improve the mod. Again, there are many things that happen when one is playing a mod that will deliver different results. I really do not see what you are soo offended about.

Like what, people saying the defenses are good and that they have a use. Then telling you how they use them as an atempt at a helpfull suggestion. I am sorry man but you need to chill.

I was trying to help you. That is fine mate, get all pissed over it but my post was completely neutral. As others have said, it is only you who perceives forbs post with a tone of arrogance. Drink some chamomile and chill out.


@fang, I have no idea what drow is pissed about, I think the mod is fine keep up the good work. Don't let people get to you. You were making good progress. Remember it is your right as the mod maker to tell all of us get bent.

Seriously, nice mod, can't stand all those AA fanboys, lmao

Anyways, I think it is decently balanced. Chrispin and I can show you some defensive uses. I don't have the replay, but it was a good fight. 2 man and 2 bot free-for-all. I can't stand the URC and their damn stealth, we were like "WHERE THE HELL IS IT!" We even teamed up on the bots to find them, we didn't hardly get any of them because they were scattered everywhere, and Arty pwned Chrispin because he was turtling and using Heli's to attack, I showed him, then he sent his helis, they got pwned by my AA, then my arty's got killed by something (his arty?) Eventually I lost, went to eat and he was still searching for URC Mex's and stuff, lol

Anyways it was a damn good fight on a damn good mod, 'nuff said.
