«Indie» movies!

Post by PauloMorfeo »

By «Indie» movies, i mean «not the obvious movies everyone knows about».

I am going to propose and recomend 3 movies of that category.
Obviously, it is only my opinion about the quality/pleasentness of the movies (although i will loath your taste for movies if you don't like my first proposal).

Hero
This movie, although i had to go see it in an «alternative» cinema, was undeserving of such since it is one of the best movies i have ever seen, without any kind of exageration! Truly a master piece of the cinema art!
... In fact, Hero actually has more in common with the work of Japanese master director Akira Kurosawa than with Crouching Tiger. This is an amazingly stylish and vivid motion picture, where images move the story forward more forcefully than the traditional methods of exposition, dialogue, and character development. If there's a drawback, it's that the plot is trite. Hero is an exemplary example of visual poetry. The narrative is clearly of secondary concern. ...
That explains well the strong points of the movie although the drawbacks aren't true unlike what that pop-corn munching cow wrote.
Don't fully read the description on that link since the reviewer is obviously an idiot. Is just the first link i found.

If you see it (i hope you will), at first you will think that it is an overly exagerated action movie but remember that what you will be seeing at first is what the character "nameless" is telling the king. The movie is not very «action» but, instead, very «story».
Be damned if you don't see this one.

Shaolin Soccer
World cup of footbal coming up and everything .
This movie is an oriental comedy about football/soccer. It is really funny!
Don't let the first 5 mins scare you because they are introductory stuff and ain't really that funny. You will have to see some more than that. If by 10~15 mins you still aren't liking it, well...

Black Cat, White Cat
This movie .. well, this one really is «indie». A movie by Emir Kusturica. Clearly not millions of cash backing it up and that kind of stuff. So it will not be considered wonderfull for everyone.
It is also a comedy. If you want to see crazy people watch it here. The situations they get in to and how they escalade are very funny, especially when acompanied by such music.
Is is Jugoslavian .. i think. Jugoslavia isn't anymore...

I was under the impression that Hero and Shaolin Soccer were pretty mainstream, "everyone knew about" movies. Hero was a damn good watch though.

Yeah. Another great Inid movie was Terror Toons. If you like having your guns extracted. And your toe nails removed slowly, one by one.

Yeah. That movie was so painful...that I almost cried when it ended. It was not tears of anger, or tears of rage. Rather they were hypothetical, almost tears of joy. I HAD LIVED!

And whats hilarious is at the end of the movie (which is about two maniacal cartoons that come to life at a party and start killing people) the heroin is faced with the creators of these creatures, the DEVIL HIMSELF!

And whats really funny is the Devil says that he will inspire violence in children by having these violent cartoons becoming the MOST POPULAR IN THE WORLD! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA/ end political statement.

Now I never saw Hero, but Shaloin Soccer sounds hilarious. I'll have to...rent that...snarky glance left, snarky glance right.

Another good indi movie (If one could consider it that, which is not clear, I think) would be Nightbreed. Yes its painfully cheesy at moments, but its still AWSOME! Why? Cause it has a lot of monsters. Living underground. And they are the good guys, hurra!.

you know what's a bad movie? Doom. I can't believe I sit through that movie with drunk people (even they, while drunk, thought it belonged to the worst 10 movies of all time).

Japanese films! REPRESENT YO!
Also if you are an action fan:

Battle Royale This flick is a fun romp, take a bunch of school kids give them a random weapon, exploding necklaces and a time limit. The sequal to this sucks but the first movie is great

ZatoIchi This was an awesome film. Not at all too serious but the fights are cool and the story is not as shallow as I expected.

IZO This was on of the most bizzare films that I have ever seen At one point the guy falls through a lake, flies out of it through a wall and kils a bride and groom. This is one sureal peice of work. There is even a fight with BOB SAPP!

TBH, if you like army of darkeness and Japanese Films I recomend:
Ryuhei Kitamura's "VS" is for you. A couple of crazy japanese people lost in the woods filled with zombies. Over the top action and a plot that is as shallow as Britney Spears! Lame is all the good ways!

If you are looking for Visual crack:
Casshern Surealistic future world with odd visual effects overall not that deep an frankly the fightscenes suck but it is like pixie sticks to the eyes!

Korean Flick:
Musa the warrior OMFG RAWK! this was an awesome movie! It is pretty long though so get some popcorn ready. Oh and call your boys, there are some hella good battles in this movie!

Well, sorry then for presenting Hero as a «Indie» movie. In here, i had to go to an alternate cinema watch it. Less than 10 people were in the theater...

That pisses me off because, had i not knew before hand of Hero and searched for it and had i not ran into accident into Shaolin Soccer in some friends PC, i would have missed them. What else am i missing that i don't even know about?

Anyway, i will recomend you guys another movie, although not a «Indie» one.
Ong Bak
This one is an action movie of but-kicking. This one's story really is crappy, but it is a tremendous feast of action, kicking, fisting, kneeing, and so on. Watch it if you enjoy martial arts.

It is, also, oriental but don't let that fool you, you won't be seeing actors dancing around in the air held by strings. What the main actor does is real, not fake, and is absolutely tremendous.

Those crazy orientals sure make crazy stuff  .

My dorm back in coledge did a battle royal- themed rush (the dorms rush at my school too, not just the frats, so that the dorms get some of the cool freshman too).

We strapped collars to all the freshman and had them fight to "the death". It was hilarious.
