A port freindly tileset

Post by mufdvr222 »

Whilst I agree with the general consensus that TA maps/tile sets are generally not very suitable for use with Spring, the Adamante tile set is a bit of an exception I think, I recently ported a map that was made with this tile set, and with the right use of L3DT to render a "template" texture and then re texturing in Photoshop, (see forbodings tutorial) the results, I believe are quite respectable.

FYI this is yet another TA map I did not originally make I just ported it for some friends,
I just wanted to post the shots and give a plug for this tileset :-)

Did it work out the way it was supposed to? What's the file size?

Well I was happy with the result, file size is 13.2mb
map is 24 x 16

And I respect your right to hate them :P

In any case I am not showcasing a map here just a tileset, even then really all your after is the elevation data as the texture is derived from an L3DT render, based on a third party (Bryce rendered) tileset.

If it was good remake it, don't port it.

If it were my map, yes, I would do a new height map in a renderer but it isn`t and its no ones business, the map itself will never be offered for download, this was done with an emphasis on an original ota style look.
The heightmap was not just ripped and used as is, you can tell its now orthographic and not that tilted ota port look, see shot.

Thats my last word on the map  the topic is about something else.

Will put together a set of screenshots "warts and all" and post a link :-)

I have started a new map that will have the same textures, with height data derived from the same tileset.
