There we go again.............. Anyway Snipawolf is going to post some screens. They might not be great models, but these are not the final versions.
Like He said, not the final versions.

Oh and nice speech, Smoth, I haven't been around as long as these people have, so I should listen to some of their tips.

Yet another thing Smoth, those don't look like shit, that's probably what our mod will look like, or something worse :-)

Those couple of shots are OK for first draft models, but you need to learn to use less slightly-modified primatives, and craft more of the 3-d shapes yourself. Some of the pro's are ound here are better at explaining this than a noob like me.

The biggest reason you'll want to give those models one more pass before you try to start using them, is that they have a TON of wasted faces, which besides causing load for spring with no graphical benefit, and most importantly, will multiply your work x10 or maybe even more when you try to texture them.

For starters, take the top of the vehicle (the deck) and join those several dozen faces into a single one. It's a flat square, you certanly don't need more than one face. Then, reduce the # of sides on the barrell, since Spring will smooth sides that are arrainged around a common point anyway. Check out http://taspring.clan-sy.com/phpbb/viewt ... c&start=40 for help with this. I think 8 sides would be good, but Argh or Smoth would know for sure.

Along similar lines, the base of the turrets could probably use less as well.

Finally, the tracks REALLY need work, but for modifying them, you need to ask someone more experienced than me. I can think of a few ways to make them OK, but on of the better guys could probably tell you how to make them good.

Sorry for all the criticism, just trying to save you before you try to texture that stuff. Best of luck with the mod.

Trust me, a noob moder and modeler are inexperienced in all honesty chrispin your "ideas" are probably going to be way off. However, if you stick to it you will learn and improve on those ideas. Odds are you are not coming up with anything revolutionary.

Trust me design is complicated and there are many elements even I have learned working on gundam, and I have been a part of four plus mods and wrote software for my uni. Unless you have a 30 page design doc, which I doubt, your mental concept is more then two pages. It is better for your first mod that you consider writing all of your ideas out then reading them out loud. Sometimes hearing your own words will make you realize the folly of such ideas.

Also, after you have written a good design doc do a week of research in scripting and modeling. A research and resource gathering phase is highly important. When I started gundam I had a one week research phase and I made three units the corefighter, t61 and rgm79g.

these are shots of the test models:

That looks like shit right? yeah it did, but it was a start. In a years time I completed models that were highly accurate to the art! I have worked and reworked many models.

I then implemented them and revised my design docs. Writing concepts on napkins and scraps of paper. Now, a year+ later I have completed that design doc and am expanding on it. I am now uvmapping those same models and it is exciting.

So remember that your early models will get a bad reception. It is ok, just listen to the feedback, it is ok no one is perfect. You balance may be way off, that is ok just remember to listen. If there is a very specific fiction related reasoning for something, always be ready to reconsider and above all else do consider your target audience, the players.
Hehe, yeah, I must have remodelled the Centurion tank from TACW (in my avatar) atleast 5 times. Even after so many years of doing this i will go back to a model and think 'holy crap what a mess' and redo it again.

I dropped 793 faces!
Thanks, I feed on criticism like a vampire feeds on blood, but however thanks for ALL of the feedback, yours was helpful, unlike 1 or 2 of the people here, who say one thing, but have no feedback whatsoever!

Well, it's rather hard to sort of say how to learn to model, other than practise.

If want to learn wings though, this is a good starter tut: http://www.geocities.com/paulthepuzzles/aaBT1s.html

I wish I could have a little proof that I'm working on the mod. I am helping some, but right now I'm too busy learning to animate and script. I will not be able to show you something that I did untill we get a unit into the final stages. So just so you know I'm not making SnipaWolf do all the work for me.
Maybe I'll show you some concept art with artpad in the meantime.

no it is ok, a research phase important. You usually want to do that BEFORE you anounce a project though. When one anounces a project it is good to at least have something to show, otherwise people just give you blank stares.

You made that lego tank... your not entirely useless...
I stopped production of Lego Spring because you [SinbadEV] and I (and perhaps kixxe, early on) were the only ones who seemed interested.
I'm interested in Lego Spring, fyi.

Maybe we can resurect the idea now and try to get it worked out over the summer... I've been wanting to try my hand at making a mod but I can't script... we should make a new thread... maybe set ourselves up a google group or something.

Those are too small to see anything, upload bigger images or the model itself.

use pictures at least 600 in width, Those can't be seen at all with a reasonable monitor resolution.

[edit] either that or just image edit everything but the acctual model out the way flozi did.

how long did it take to make those models? im sure you can enhance them with more details, than just blocks and spheres. Im rendering a tank a made in 20 minutes, i'll post the images when there done.
