Greenhaven retexture...

Post by Forboding Angel »

A certian someone in the community asked me to retexture greenhaven, as the one we have now has way too much fog and the texture is a stretched one that came out of TAE or Annihilator.

OTA hightmaps tend to make depressing side shots, however, any opinions? BTW I have not added the features yet.

I like it,

Maybe the green should have some more variation like some black spots or something on it

It looks pretty good, though i have to admit im not a fan of that lighter shade of green. It looks radioactive. I've come up with a climate what comes pretty close to greenworld. The way i made it is kind of cheap and lazy but the results are convincing.

I made a map, well, I retextured evade river confluence or whatever, one of the first custom maps ever made. :P

And I am constructive, more so on teamspeak, easier to get ideas across. But if you really want....

Add some nice mideval ruin features. :-)

Not to get into an agruement about semantics, but i have to say that the current climate doesn't look cartoony at all, it simply looks out of place.

The old Greenworld texture was far more cartoony and (to me) was very asthetic and pleasing. Not to say that Forbodings current render isnt good enough I've just always had a soft spot for OTA Ports and Remakes and I'd like them to be as faithful to their original counterparts as much as possible.

Especially with Greenhaven, my 3rd favorite map (after Two Continents #1 and Painted Desert #2), just would love to see it done right, especially if Forboding our most experienced mapper is the one doing its remake.

Can it be called something else than greenhaven? Plus that way you're freed from having to stick perfectly close to the original.

It IS greenhaven though. I understand what your are saying... But the idea is staying as close to the design as the original as I can (barring the texture). Someone has already done that by exporting the ota texture from annihilator and doubling it's size by stretching, ungh.

If I was doing this remake for myself I would most likely ignore everyone, however, I'm not. So if you're gonna make a point please back it up with something material.

Is the name Evergreenhaven taken yet? I think there was an OTA map by this name, but I don't see its author here ^^

Evergreen Haven is one of the best AA maps atm.

Well, the rock do look really good, and fit in quite nicely. Tell ya what, I'll add the rocks and post another screenie.

Another thing. I'll post the original metal layout when I get home for all to see, but I'mma do my own. Reason is, it is heavily biased towards the east team, and the right side if you are doing N vs S. Like I said I'll post the original when I get home.

When I get my own lain out I will post it as well.

im sorry but, i did like the original texture better. Some of the mountains have some strange grassy sides, which i think look better with fully rock. But asfar as i know the previous version had mis-alignment on the texture so, a map with a good alignment is always better!

Maybe in next version you could set the heighttolerance for the rocktexture a bit higher.

Maybe the color could also fit the tree's better when making it less 'radio-active', bit more like OTA green.

That just my 2 cents.
