Now that more and more players have a stars in the lobby, and even if it does not mean they are über-killers, perhaps it is time to differenciate further the levels?
Something like:
copper star: 100-200 hours
silver : 201-300
gold: 301+
I'm sure it has been asked before anyway... Has this been ruled out or its just a lack of time to not have implemented it?

the only thing i dont like about ranks is it gives a false sense of skill. the thing a liked about having the server down and running on the backup server is that you just jump into a game and unless you see someone with a clan handle or knew them from the past, you really didnt know how good/bad they were going to be.
i've played some generals that play like they're nearly noobs. i won't mention any names but one in general refused to play since we had two guys specing with a clan handle and they were going to play against guys from the same clan. well, we mixed up the teams and they played. this guy seriously did nothing.
as nice as they classifications are, i would say have something more like games won (single and multiple partners), lost (single and multiple partners), or played (single and multiple partners) on a seperate profile page. this would actually mean a lot more then having a star next to your name. all that that means is that you have played an X amount of hours

I dont think rankings higher than three ^'s are really important.
Its just usefull to see if someone is a "complete noob", then you can for example ask them to download the map before clicking ready or explain how to forward the ports or something...
Rankings also dont matter about mods, you might be good at XTA but bad at E&E
Automatic ranking would probally not work, too many games end by crashes or are played just for fun.

Is this MTR yet?
It's just the fact you can get your star by playing only speed metal, or only a selective gorup of poeple. So you come less in contact with other types of stratagy. Shortly said: I think the average skill of the stras is decreasing.
As for the "über-players" who generally indeed have more then 200 hours. Noize is right, we need a ladder. but an rank 6 could help as well.

The chev ranking we have right now isn't about skill, it's about experiance... Which is another reason this isn't massively important, there isn't that much experiance difference between 100-200 play hours, by 100 hours you pretty much know the game anyways.wizard8873 wrote:the only thing i dont like about ranks is it gives a false sense of skill. the thing a liked about having the server down and running on the backup server is that you just jump into a game and unless you see someone with a clan handle or knew them from the past, you really didnt know how good/bad they were going to be.
