I don't know what you expected us testers to test, but we've been hungry for a new version since... very long ago. :P

If you do upload it, then please, make the maps and TA content separate from the main engine files, I've got things set up here already, and I don't want to strain my modem with another 50 megs.

Well, spring has not really been in a playable state for quite a long time unfortunately.. It's starting to come together now though.

A new version has been uploaded to the private folder. The _small installers only contain one map, other than that it should be fairly obvious I think.

Alright, at last! Version 0.1, eh? Heh, I didn't get the difference between _small_no_ta_content and _core, but then remembered that _small meant _one_ map. :P Good, good... now, a forward question while the file downloads - are starting scripts editable in any way, or are they just infused into the exe?

Hm yeah.. not sure if we should provide all those installers for download. :)

The scripts are written in c++ and compiled into the exe.

Heh, ok, that's a bit disappointing... hmm... how about scripts in text files? They shouldn't be difficult to make and read, just like map descriptor files.

I dont think its so important to be able to change the scripts now. Everyone will be playing multiplayer anyway.

If you want faster testing using
.cheat
.nocost

That's not what I had in mind. I wanted to, given the lack of AI currently, to at least be able to set up your opponent's forces, patrols, etc. so you could have a meta-skirmish game.

Btw, when spring crashes, don't you get any message or something at all? Also, if you find a unit script that causes a crash please send it here.. The script engine should be able to cope with broken scripts.

Well, it mostly crashes when either I win, which is rare, or when some combination of events overloads something and makes it crash. Usually it involves the Drones, or a lot of machinegun fire, that somtimes makes a lot of projectiles go out of map boundaries. See if a certain large number of projectiles gone astray can cause a crash.

Hm ok, but you don't get any message or something in the log..? We have a crashreport-thingy integrated, it should pop up when it crashes.. :)

Ok we tracked down the thing that probably caused your crash. But it still strange that you dont get the bug report dialog.

No, no, I do get the bug report dialog, but since I usually play offline, I can't send anything. I did save one of the reports though, but I don't know how to send it now.

The send function just generates an email with your default mail application, so you can probably send it when you get online later.. Or you can save the report and send it to us through the submit files thingy on the site. They are usually quite helpful to track down the bug so please do.. :)

<pops head out of hole>

It's about time I spared some time for Spring again. Typical of everything else getting in the way...

Oddly enough, I'd never really noticed that the movies released did not contain any sound. Guess I was concentrating more on the watching.

I have a dual PC setup with a TV card in one that allows me to record off the other, together with sound from connected sound cards. The quality is, er, interesting. The sound records fine once I get the volume adjusted correctly. Video isn't bad once it has been crudely de-interlaced. Will see what results I can get...

I noticed that the downloads in the private section have been renamed. Are they any different from the "0.1 pre" version that was before, or did you just change the name to better reflect the state of completeness of the project?

Yeah we bumped the version number a little.. But they are not renamed, it is a new version.
