Maplist == AAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH

Post by Rayden »

The maplist becomes really unconvienient slowly. Would it be possible to introduce categories like

- style (green, metal, crystal, ... )
- size
- player no.

I guess there are no flags in map for sorting in category and someone would have to sort manually which is ....

But maybe we can collect some good ideas here how we can get a better overview in maplist.

I'm not sure if it's just Altaric's client, but I'm pretty sure the names of maps you already have are coloured green.

my want:

I want a quick link to the actual download page for the specific map on FU from the client. Often the reviews/comments/screenshots section provides helpful information on how to handle this map, or even if I want to bother with it instead of just switching to a different host.

The maps I downloaded _that session_ appear green on my computer, but once I shut Spring down for the day and come back to it later, the entire list has gone back to being black.

Except for some names in yellow, which are usually things I haven't downloaded, and I'm not sure why they show up yellow.

a text only alternative index on FU would be a good first aid.

I'm pretty sure those maps require some kind of manual intervention to install.

With the new map format coming, all maps will probably have to be re-re-rereleased. So we could take this opportunity to come up with a system of tags in map description files to help sort them.

For instance, in Altored Divide, I might put something like this:

"Category=landonly earth mediumwind mediummetal;
Players=6 8 10;"

No, spring will be compatible with old maps. Actually, it will have 2 map renderers once Zaphod releases the new format.

What a luxury problem...
"The map list is inconveniently large"

We have really grown large here. :-)
I mean just a year ago we had the first public release.

Compared to what we've got now, 0.4 was truely aweful.

I think a map download list with categories is a wonderfull idea!

Image

In addition there should be also something like a "most downloaded" or "new" category.
