Mailbox salvation
Hi, do anyone know how to stop tenths of junkmail pouring to my hotmail box everyday ?

Well I suggest making a heavy filter on hotmail or dropping hotmail altogether. They aren't a very good client to use for email.
Bruce's suggestion for gmail is great. I love gmail.
Which ever you choose I suggest having two. One for all the sign ups you have to do and to give out to people you have just met and stuff. And one for more serious matter, like school, or employers ect.

Aye to that, signups can be a major spam magnet.Claire wrote:Which ever you choose I suggest having two. One for all the sign ups you have to do and to give out to people you have just met and stuff. And one for more serious matter, like school, or employers ect.
An you can have a decent (lame) email-address to give to your employers, and a memorable one for your mates.

Check them out. If 1 piece of spam ever makes it past their filters I'll eat my shirt.

What antispam system do they use? Do you have to constantly check your spam box to make sure legit stuff hasn't been blocked?Forboding Angel wrote:www.unitedemailsystems.com

Nice time to link, Forb, considering that their site is down for a week. =P
hmm, the onyl ever spam I got that came through a GMail filter was an email with nothing but ?'s where they where foreign letters and it had no sender etc, but that was ages ago, and none of my legit stuff ever goes into the spam folder...
That and GMail has too many features for me to switch to another webmail....

I don't use spamfeast hotmail but doesn't it not allow to send mails? As far as i know, those web mails allow for downloading mail but not sending through it.Rayden wrote:Isn't it possible to read your hotmail mail box with any client? You could use Thunderbird on your hotmail email address and then use the junk filter of TB.
That can be worked around if you are on Linux since they often come with a mail service active, sendmail, which you can use to send mail. Although Thunderbird doesn't work with the bastard...

I'm pretty sure it's just standard POP3.FizWizz wrote:I haven't done it, but I thought that you could only access hotmail accounts remotely through Microsoft Outlook, a proprietary thing.
I don't trust GMail; they record all your email and could be forced to hand it over to the government. The government does not need my emails.
If you use a Hotmail or other crapmail account for all signups, form entries, etc. and use a "safe" email account for all real communications, you should be good. Might have to change "safe" email accounts fairly regularly. I've had mine for, oh, two years without anything other than the random 1000-address-at-a-time spam; now I'm getting a little bit. If you ever have to post your email address on a forum spambot-proof it, like xxMyEmailAddress-at-xxMyServer-dot-comxx.

Why not use a "safe" email for junk and another "safe" email for real stuff?Felix the Cat wrote:...

Why bother at all with spamfeast email addresses like hotmail? That crappy piece of shit only allows 2 or 3 MBs of space, anyway. That won't even be able to hold spam and registrations.
You used to be able to access hotmail externally, but now it's only available to paying customers with a full copy of Microsoft Outlook.
Gmail has pop3 through ssh, and I think IMAP too, not to mention a notifier, adn google toolbar integration
Also saying that you dont trust gmail because they store all your email is silly, all email providers do that else you wouldnt have an inbox! And there are laws protecting the contents of email, the government would need to ahev a damned good reason to get their hands on it in which case it doesnt matter whcih email provider you choose be it gmail hotmail, they wont see any difference and demand the emaisl be handed over.
So really hotmail is just as untrustworthy as gmail if you cite those reasons.
As for hotmail onyl havign 2-3MB I think it's higher than that, 250MB last tiem I checked with paying customers gettign 2GB, but Gmail offers 2.7GB free atm and it's continuosly being upgrade. They upgraded everyone to 2.5GB then that started going up immediatly after as they added extra storage, since then it's risen 200MB and the rate of increase is getting faster too.
That and on hotmail you see flashy adverts in your way with images and animation, adverts which are nowhere to be seen on gmail..
