Dynamic water lagging horribly

Post by Muse »

Hey, heres my problem:

Whenever I load a map up that has water in it spring lags horribly, with an fps of about a frame every 4 seconds, and my ping skyrocketing to 1440 (usually). My CPU hovers around 0% and 1%. The first 3 seconds before the game though run smooth. Its just as soon as any units spawn (or game starts) that it breaks down. I have tried three different mods, maps with or without water (being the maps without water work as normal), extremely low settings with windowed mode, maxed out settings at the highest resolution, reinstalling drivers etc.

I have a GF6600 and from what I understand it does work on that card. In fact I know it does, because I see it working, just with extreme lag. I have also reinstalled the newest NVIDIA drivers, to no avail.

I know I can play without dynamic water but I really really want to see it :(

Also from what I understand the water is entirely reliant on GPU, might that be a problem, could my card totally hate computing dynamic water? Reflective water and other water like that works in all my other games.

It's probably something stupid I forgot =/

I have same problem. Any map with water and my ping skyrockets. I have a 6800 agp, and a 2.4 ghz AMD. (2.4 ghz not 2400+)

Yeah but supposedly on the previews SJ has made the pictures and videos all had a GF6600 GT running them. So it must be something else...

can't render the pretty splashy water? Easy solution: turn it off.
It's as simple as that

...

or, if you don't already, play in windowed mode, it might help. I don't know why, but I can set my graphics higher when I'm in windowed mode.

Haha, I know I will have to turn it off, but I'm just hoping for a solution.

In fact, heres a picture of it turned on before a game. Obviously I can render it, but as soon as it starts moving all hell breaks loose. It must be something...

I get something like 8-9 fps with the new water renderer and my computer specs are: GF 6800GT 128MB, AMD 64 3000+, 1024MB RAM, winxp 32bit

So something must be wrong when i get fps low as that. I have the latest nvidia forceware drivers installed.

edit: they had a newer version available, forceware 84.21, With those i get 11-12 fps when the water is in sight and when i look straight up in the sky i get to ~40 fps.

Athlon X2 3800+
dual 6800GS's
2048MB RAM

I don't lag, i don't know the exact fps i get, ill post it when i check it out tonight, but i dont get deformation from movements. if something shoots into the water, it creates waves. the other thing that happens is i get non-moving static looking water where the shot hit. ill post pics of this when i get home too.

I also get lag (and I mean network lag) when it's turned on - ping instantly shoots up to 1999ms and desyncs as soon as the game starts (but it runs fine before that).

There must be something causing the water to send information (vast quantities thereof) over the net or something...maybe it's trying to sync the water with the other machines?

My ping also gets pretty bad, 300-600 and after a few minutes into the game I desync and the battle closes. :(
My framerate is rather low, in the 20's but thats fine. I can drop other settings to improve it.

81.98 here
I havent bothered to update as all the new drivers just improve 7-series support.
