Realistic LOS

Post by hawkki »

I was wondering is it possible for modders to change enough parameters so that you could have the following way of gameplay:

*A unit's LOS would be equal to the radar currently (really long, blocked by terrain)
*The current los would be a range in which the tank could independently aim and shoot accurately. Could be called accuracy-LOS
*Radar coverage and targeting facility would be needed to shoot accurately outside the current los range, even though the unit would be fully visible by the realistic LOS mentioned above.
*Radar jammers would be used in the base so that the enemy could not accurately aim at objects in your base if he does not have them inside a units accuracy-LOS

This is something i really would like to see in this game, practically the only thing that annoys me is when you drive with a unit and then in front of your nose pops up something.

So i'm asking if modders have the ability to change enough parameters to make that possible, or is it something that should be added to spring itself. LOS can be changed by modders, that i know. But the other points im not sure of. So maybe someone could help me with this, thanks.

Los is VERY CPU intensive.

Point being?-) Hawk's LOS wouldn't be more CPU intensive - atleast noticably, yes?

Then again what hawkki is proposing seems to me that blops would be changed to visible units but retain inaccuracy. Also jammers would work in somewhat different way (useless unless the enemy has a targeting facility?).

Anyway the inaccurately shooting the enemies IMHO sucks since I can always micromanage the artillery to shoot the right spot. Now there's actually a problem in Spring with this inaccurate blobs thingie with ghosted buildings. One can see the ghosted building in the right spot but when aimed at w/o LOS, the aim will hover around the ghosted building just like a radar blop would. And it's very unhandy to try to even shoot the ground under the ghosted building to get perfect accuracy since it'll just begin shooting the wandering radar blop. Annoying. (Yes by turning off radar the aim can be fixed to the ground. Unhandy.)

Now large LOS is a nice thing that was added to mods like UH and XTA and AA too. I think the LOS is now fine. Use the cameras and stuff... Radar planes are very good scouts too with a large LOS.

If you want psuedo-realisticly scaled it will.

A&A uses more or less realistically scaled LoS (100m, in our scale), and its not really a problem. Then again, our units are tiny.
