Crawling bomb idea

Post by Corncobman »

My idea is to make crawling bombs automatically charge at a unit within LOS when set to fire at will. Do you think this is a good idea or a bad idea?

This could be done with a new fbi tag, so that units with short range weapons, like close combat units will try to close down the distance if it is in LOS range instead of just sitting there doing nothing.

I may be wrong, but: units with weapons that have a range will try to close the distance, whatever it is. So even if you made a pretend-melee unit with a range of say 20-30 (and corresponding slash-animation), the unit will try to close to inside 20-30 distance units to attack. Crawling bombs are different because their weapon doesn't really have a 'range.'
It would be nice to allow kamikaze units to charge and detonate themselve upon enemy units by their own initiative. It would be easy to prevent this by making these units hold position, or keep that unit from doing it by default, editable in their .fbi, I believe.

you could just give kamikaze units a dummy weapon with a range about equal to their detonation range

Slightly smaller would be better. otherwise the EE could cause it to do very little damage.

well yes, but their detonation (trigger) range is already less than their explosion radius
