Will there be weather effects?

Post by Warlord Zsinj »

Well, seeing as my other thread was hijacked, and then fell by the wayside, I thought I'd start a thread that shoots straight for what I'd really like to see in Spring.

To the SY's:
Will there be weather effects in Spring?

If so, what will they entail? Will they blanket the whole map? Will they be limited to certain tiles? Will the sky change to accomodate such weather effects? Will the lighting change to accomodate such weather effects?

(Oh, and by weather effects, I mean things like, rain, snow, blizzards, fog, etc)

Coupled with this is an equally important question:
Will the weather effects affect units?
If so, how?

Now really when are we going to get answers to these questions, I've seen this, night and day, and lighting effects over and voer and over again sicne these forums where staretd and not ocne has an SY answered on this or even given an opinion! I demand that this be sorted out at once to save anymore speculation!

This isn't the night and day thread. There is another thread for that.

I only want to know about weather effects.

*Crosses fingers and hopes for an answer other than "its something to consider for one of the later versions"*

I'll add this to the request list. I love snow too! Though not as much as nice sunny beaches.

The best would be that the SYs implement a weather framework, but let it up to the community to create their own weather graphics for the game. That will allow for much more interest and variety than a few hard-coded weather effects.

I think blizzards sould cover units with snow, so in the end they are totaly buried and cant mvoe till another unint "dusts" them off (like in Earth 215something or other) and rain creates mud, slowing tanks and stopping wheeled veichles. Ligting would swat planes out of the sky and meteors would obliterate bases! MUHAHANHAHA.... i want more then weather, i want a weather CONTROL DEVICE!

no no no, I think they should be able to move but they have small LOS, slow movement and no attack capabilities unless your a pyro.

Well, If you ignore the bits of inanity of the above several posts, most of what is said is vaguely what I intended with weather.
More or less that weather effects do actually effect units, such as reduced LOS, movement, hidden from enemies (but none of the "not firing" or "completely covered in snow" nonsense, which is just ludicrous).

However, right now I'd be happy with any word on whether the weather effects were being considered, because if they are, its a rather easy step to move on to making them affect units...

but to make it rain is fairly simple with a bog standard particle system (which they have, although its better then bog standard). btw come there will not be any ambient sounds?!

Just wind for the windgens etc. At least for the first release.

Woe is me! :(

Surely they could have responded to this thread?
Don't they check the forums anymore?

... I suppose I'll just have to be patient for weather effects.
I hope atleast they keep the option to include them later well open.
