We would like to be able to make this mod completely copyright free. Anyone feel like helping?

Smoth, could you make something like an offical "Smoth Texture Pack"? so all mods can use it to replace the ota textures?

Styles in textures you mean? or working styles?

if its only texture styles.. dont think it matters, its only variety to the "official" texture pack.

Peeople who know how to UVMap sohuld focus their energies on getting MORE peopel UVMapped instead of pepetuating crap... IE the OTA texture method for Spring.

Doesn't Atari hold right over the 3DO file type as well?

Dragon, UV mapping is one thing, but recreating every model in s3o is something else. It costs enourmous amount of effort to create a single unit. left alone an entire mod. If a mod of E&E scale (like most mods) is to be created in s3o, a team of modelers should group up. (Caydr is trying to accomplish this).

Only someone who does not know what HE is talking about would say this. lets play it out in out head for a second...
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
remodeling.... 1-2 hours
making a good uvwmap... 4-5 hours
texturing that map efficiently... as in NOT using a 1024X1024 texture for the model... about 5-10 hours depending on the model...

so a possible total of 10-17 hours per model... unless you are really good and frankly we have no one that good on this forum..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also... some people as in YOU have none of the aforementioned skills... which is why we are talking about doing these textures because the time is more like......

model some piece of shit....
texture it in 3d0builder...

about 5-8 hours.. and that is assuming the person is completely shit..
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
At least if you are going to say something make sure you know what you are talking about...

mongus wrote:Styles in textures you mean? or working styles?
mongus... to explain the differences would only start an art fight between argh and I because we have different perspectives. There are areas that IF I even began to explain it that will cause bitter feelings.
mongus wrote:if its only texture styles.. dont think it matters, its only variety to the "official" texture pack.
Let me simply say that if the styles are TOO conflicting it will look LIKE SHIT!

btw, thanks zenka, I am happy to see there are voices of reason around here.

Now that we have established all of this.... this thread was about E&E getting the hook-up on my GA textures which they did.. time to move on. lock please?

Not unless they patented it or some aspect of it. You can't copyright or trademark a file format, last I checked. You can copyright an implementation of code to read/write a file format, but not the format itself. Otherwise Microsoft would've put the smackdown on OpenOffice well before now.

Heh, I didn't mean the litteral 3DO, but indeed the file is used, they way of storing a unit. But you figured that out ^.^

And smoth, you are just like me, used to create units. We understand eachother ;)
The UV mapping took me a bit shorter though. Since Maya has very usefull tools for it. I think it takes me 2 hours or so.
The time it takes me to paint the UV map is very dependable of the unit's size. The Silencer took me about 10-12 hours, since I did it by hand. Making the model takes me about 3 to 4 hours. When having an existing model to reffer too.
