I don't mean buy new hard drives because im running out of space, I mean buy new hard drives because they are destroyed because of writing too often to the same physical location.
I already have 150 MB of demos recorded, who is going to give me an extra write on that area ?
I don't understand the problem of disabling replays recording that are never going to be watched ?
you don't solve a problem by fixing it later every time, you solve it by preventing it from occuring.
heh, if your spring quits just start it again, then we should not need bug fixing in spring at all, why ? you can always restart spring.

Then i surely hope you dont use windows, because the disk area where your registry and swapfile resides will be written more often in a hour of normal windows use than your spring folder in 20 years of you playing games.monohouse wrote:I don't mean buy new hard drives because im running out of space, I mean buy new hard drives because they are destroyed because of writing too often to the same physical location.

yeh I should just get a decent HD, I should just get a decent CPU maybe some more "decent" ram ?
nobody answered the most important question, you all people answer only the questions you want, why should I have something made for me which I do not need in the first place and then manually get rid of it all the time ?
there are many things in life that can be worked around in one way or another, I can lower the volume in the amplifier to -infinity db but why would I do that if I can use the power off switch ?
why should you put your systems into standby mode from which you know you will never recover instead of shutting them down ?
but you do shut them down, then you should shut down that as well.
what's the fuss ?
at least I found a better workaround to all interrested:
delete demos directory, create an empty "demos" file instead.
thanks for your uncooperation duudes but at least the hard drive problem I solved, although I am much more concerned about the rest.
oh and IMSabbel, I am using winblows you'd be surprised to know that my drives are not being written at all, unless told to do so, with a rather decent amount of ram (768 MB) and a swapfile on a ramdrive it's not a problem, but you're missing the point.

not really, the recording routine is still running in the spring engine, that was the real reason that it should have been removed, the topic just drifted there, but the real reason is that spring engine is doing something that in 90% of cases it should not be doing it, only when people want to record a particular game, come one, how many of you watch all the recorded games ?
It speeds up development when you don't have to make everything optional. People buy commercial products with features they don't need al the time, so why should free game developers suddenly feel obligated to add an option for every tiny little feature.
Please stop whining about trivial stuff like this.
It does not prevent you from using a certain feature, it does not prevent any modmaking abilities, it does not cause bugs, so really why should it be changed?

that's what you missed, is exactly the reason why they suck, and exactly the reason why non-commercial programs are better, that is exactly the reason for this entire topic, and that is exactly where it should be.
1x"tiny little" maybe "tiny little"
2x"tiny little" is "little"
6x"tiny little" is "major"
10x"tiny little" is already bloat.
I wouldn't mind if you've said that about a feature to be implemented, I can understand that, but this is about a feature not to be implemented, it is wasted time for developers instead of just running the game they also need to be running some recording as well, on the opposite - it's not more features it's less - and it's not more options it's less, and it's not more work, it's less.
for one, it should be changed because it makes spring worse not better
and it does prevent me from using a feature : don't whant to record
why should NOT recording be a feature in the first place ?, I thought recording sounds more like a feature.
it speeds up development maybe a little, but which direction ? to the abyss with all the bloat it will be speeded up.
my suggestion involves removing code not inserting more, it makes it faster.
it is you who should stop insulting people and threatning them with your admin rights, I said it once elsewhere before, and I will do it again, too bad that most of all I encounter that heret.
you don't like the suggestion, you're welcome to post your negative opinions, but if you insult me, you should be ashmed being an admin.
after all Zaphod, I never asked that of you to program.

Wrong, your suggestion involves making code optional, which results in more code than a non-optional feature.my suggestion involves removing code not inserting more, it makes it faster.
As for insulting people? I am just asking that you stop with asking for LOADS and LOADS of small things that nobody else gives a crap about.
I heard you were even PMing betalord with more of this.
Even if you think of this as insulting, I'm only insulting you and no one else

You've even asked betalord for a lobby without kick and ban commands, because you don't need them. OMG
Yes I don't like you.
