Fire and Smoke points

Post by Pathfinder »

I have recently constructed a vehicle and its in .S3O format. Its completely textured, but I do not know what is needed for the smoke and fire effects, as well as the point from which the gun fires. I have looked at other .S3O models and i have no clue what they use. I'm using 3ds max and I have tried adding both points and dummies, but the exporter would not except it. What do I need to use fore the weapon fire points?

Smoke is activated by the script of the unit.
In this scribt file (BOS/COB) stands everytyhing about the units movement and movable parts.

This is always a diffrent part of unit making. More info can be found here: http://taspring.clan-sy.com/wiki/Create_units
It's a good thing to look at existing unit scripts.

I understand that you call the various pieces in the .BOS/.COB to get it to create the desired effects, but I was talking about the points that they come from. If you open up UPspring and look at a .S3O model you will see what I mean. In the Hierarchy there is a part the is named Muzzle or Beam for the nano lathe. My question is, what are those points made from. Are they super small cubes or something else?

If I am not mistaken flares were used in TA as firing points, notice when building a Bertha or other big structure/unit the yellow flares, and the smoke can by tied to a single vertex but has to be called in the bos/cob file.

Those point object should probably be created in Upspring. I'm not sure about s3o, but in old 3do Builder it was that way: single-point objects (smoke origins or fire points) were added in 3do Builder, not in the modelling program.

It doesn't really matter hor those objects look like. In the script you make them invisible anyway. Small cubes work fine. The flares in older objects arn't used as a visible object anymore, since Spring can make better flares. They do show up when the model is destroyed and parts fly off.
