help getting started

Post by moe »

People talk about 'Single Player'. How do I start a single player game?
Go into your Spring folder and find the 'Spring.exe' file. Double click on it and say 'yes' to host.

I just down loaded this game and when I double click I do not get an option that lets me chose host, It takes me straight to a screen that says commanders air test and bunch of other choices but nothing that gives me the choice of host, Any Idea what gives here??

Or am I double clicking the wrong thing??? There is one icon that has a black back ground with I guess what is supposed to be a spring on it, and it is named spring That is the one I am double clicking

Any help would be appreciated,

... uhm.. the things in that list are the "Single Player"... try commander or random enemies... or check the http://www.darkstars.co.uk/ installer that included SpringSP and NTAI (it's mirrored at fileuniverse http://www.fileuniverse.com/?p=showitem&ID=2756 )... it's a much better game/interface to use.

PS: I've never had any problems with the current SpringSP, but some people claim it corrupts the installation of spring, so make sure you keep your installer handy...

Hmm OK I wondered about all that, If i click on any of the options all I get is a peice of bare terrain with steam vents all over the place, No trees rocks or even commanders for that matter and this huge not so mini mini map that takes up half the screen,, Actually looks like a developers screen

maybe I will just dump the one I down loaded from Yanks and do a new install with the link you provided,

what got me was it seems they are saying there is some kind of screen or something before you go to the game selection screen where I am supposed to say yes to host,

Never saw that screen choice or any thing even close to what they are saying,

Hi all

Ok got it working, But it really seems to me that thing was released just a tad to early,

At least on the my system trees are just green blobs of color i can not even make out what the build pictures really are they are so pixilated and forget trying to read the text,

It is pretty much obliterated You will go blind, So I have no idea what the new units that they have in there are supposed to do

actually reminds me of the original pong game except this in color,

I can not even build 1 structure before I have 30 enemies all ready rushing , Still have not figured out where the metal is, Can not see any any where on the map

May be there is something wrong with my settings, I will try messing with them later

What you are describing is so utterly not what others experience.... It's so far out there that I'm at a loss.

Could you perhaps take a screen capture of it, and tell us a bit about your system?

Edit:
For giggles I just went and tried 640x480 (lowest dropdown option)... It sure is ugly, and text is hard to read, but its not even close to what moe describes.

Trees are still not blobs, looks nothing like pong in color, BP's arent all pixelated. The minimap is too large (overlaps the side menu), but still takes up perhaps 1/10th of the screen, not 1/2.

This is what 640x480 with ugly trees looks like for me:

They took out the option to "host" in the lastest version because you can use script to do that...

sounds like maybe you need to turn your setting up a bit... I'd suggest 1024x768... and make higher quality trees...

Hi mother and sin bad,

I have a Gforce 2 card 1.10 AMD Athlon processor and 1 gig of ram on windows Xp professional,

I need to get a new video card, but here in the Philippines it is not that easy to walk into a store and just buy one, No body here can really afford the the high end cards so if you want one you usually need to special order it and it is shipped via a three legged camel and will usually be damaged because I guess the camel falls down a lot, Just really is not a big enough market for high end stuff here,

That is why the pirate thing is so big over here, very few people can really afford to buy licensed software, I have been trying to find a licensed copy of Microsoft Front Page because somebody snagged mine, No Can do and I live in the second largest city in the Philippines,

Next time I get to the States I will have to go to Comp USA or something

I did the screen res change to your suggested setting and now it is much better,

I am trying to get used to this camera mode, When I first started the game I had the poor text etc and could see no features and was in the look down mode,

I changed the camera mode to the FPS and all of sudden there is grass and trees etc, And yeah now it looks pretty good, rather than green blobs,

I was a very late bloomer to Computers and bought my first PC in 98, Never used a computer before in my life,

I bought OTA the very same day, It was my very first game on my very first computer,

I was staying in a hotel at the time and set every thing up and loaded the game,

I almost went bonkers trying to figure out how to make the game work

Apparently this is going to be a history repeats itself thing,
Thanks for the help and the info!!!

http://www.darkstars.co.uk

go get NTAI XE7.5 and it'll install spring SP along with it aswell as an updated XTA and nanoblobz. Then you can use Spring SP to start a game offline as it's a much easier itnerface to use....
