New Map: Redhaven

Post by zwzsg »

Download Redhaven from Fileuniverse.

My first map for spring is complete. It is just like greenhaven, expect it takes place on Rougpelt instead of Empyrean. Otherwise, metal patches placment, geo placement, wind, relief, everything you can think of has been respected. It is the first map with true metal patches that you can see without F4 mode. For the graphism, I have chosen a crepuscular red/orangish theme, giving a sense of end of of the world that fits TA quite well.

It has been tested and found working online, in a fierce 3 player FFA that is my best Spring game so far. We three were using the OTA patch, one out of 3 used the evolva model, it worked fine and lasted long.

Kick. Ass.

It looks very modern and spring-eh... did you do this in Terragen?

No, it's simply a port of Greenhaven: Annihilator -> export map as .bmp, export heightmap as .bmp -> mapconv.exe -> make spring map out of them.

Since spring plant trees on all thing green, keeping it green cause it to be unplayable because of trees overkill, so I shifted the hue. Then I tweaked the bmp more, added metal patches drawing, spotted them and made them metallic, spotted geo and geoised them, removed the green that is contained in the blackness of shadows, tweaked the lighting and sky to suit the map, finely adjusted the heightmap, tuned the wind and metal values, finely adjusted metal and geo gfx for the red background, etc..., but basically it's a greenhaven extracted from totala2.hpi. Later I found a way to have treeless green maps (make a purple map under a green sun), but I was happy with the crepuscular dark orange theme so kept it.

Cool settings for the atmosphere, it seems a bit dark though.
