Those Canadian psychos are about to start their annual baby seal slaughtering.
[This practice really does disgust me, but this thread really is just a good natured jab]
***WARNING: DO NOT SCROLL BELOW THIS PICTURE UNLESS YOU ARE PREPARED FOR GORE*****
First they hit them over the head with a club...
Also from my personal opinion... just because something is cute doesn't give it any more right to life then anything else on the planet... humans are different then animals because we have the ability to disearn when killing off thousands of animals is in the best interest of the environement as a whole.
Myth #2: Seals are being skinned alive.
Reality: A 2002 independent veterinarians├óÔé¼Ôäó report published in the Canadian Veterinary Journal and numerous reports mentioned by the Malouf Commission (1987) indicate that this is not true.
Sometimes a seal may appear to be moving after it has been killed; however seals have a swimming reflex that is active ├óÔé¼ÔÇ£ even after death. This reflex gives the false impression that the animal is still alive when it is clearly dead ├óÔé¼ÔÇ£ similar to the reflex in chickens.
First of all... "skinning the seals alive", if it happens, is not something done on purpose... it's not like boiling lobster alive because it cooks better that way... it's something that's an accident... it's also not something that is legal in canada...

Doesn't give it any less right to life either...
If I came to your house right now and flailed you you and scalped you and then murdered you, and said in my defense "He didn't have any more right to life than any other thing on this planet", how would your family and friends feel?
I, for my self, belive that all life has only two REAL rules.
"Don't die" and "Breed".
When you think of it in really stark, depressing tearms like that, life is really simple. If horrible and depressing, so thats when society hammers in the next three rules
"Don't Kill" and "Don't steal" and "Don't be a asshat"
Then culture interceeds. Culture puts down another set of even MORE rules (All of the one).
"Be Nice".
Really those six rules are very simple to
A) Propigate teh speices
B) Keep out society intact
C) Have a nice and happy culture, with smiling and lolypops!
Oh and there is South Park Rule: "Drugs are baaad mmkay".
But so, following these rules, we can infeer that because clubbing a baby seal and skinning it then leaveing the corpse to be covered by snow is not a good. It breaks the "Don't Kill" rule. And, even worse, becasue they people who are clubbing aren't breaking the "Don't Die" rule you can't midigate them! Its not LIKE THEY ARE EATING SEALS!! If they were killing them humainly to surivive then its not horrible, its natural. Animals eat other animals.
So by my personal rules of exsistence, the clubbers are being horrible horrible people.

All I'm saying in that particular quote is that unless you are expecting me to be an ova-lacto-vegan you have no particular reason to show me pictures of mutilated harp seals other then the fact that you are trying to make me feel sorry for the things because they are cute.
Leaving the carcasses to rot? Many people eat seal meat... I don't, in fact I've never seen it on the store shelves... maybe that's because a bunch of idiots keep putting pictures of bloodied up 3 day old seals all over the place and any store that tried to sell seal meat wold get burned down by the end of the week.
Yeah... I'm sorry... that argument was a little weak.

They would call the police and put you in prison, but Seals don't have working law system...

An interesting point raised here. Where's the balance point.
1 human life> 1 animal life
and
1 human life> 10 animal lives
but is
1 human life> 1 million animal lives?
or
1 human life> 1 animal species?
How much does humane killing as opposed to barbaric slaughter affect the numbers?
And how many human lives are saved by killing baby seals? Is it just about fish and feeding ourselves or sport and profit?
And why is a human worth more than an animal in the first place? What gives us the right to live over them? We are the ones that wage large scale wars, kill animals needlessly (like the seals. Cows for food and stuff is fine), cant live togther nicley, and generally screw up the planet for everyone else. I think the majority of humans in the world deserve to live less than animals.
